Hola queridos amigos, regreso a ustedes después de unos días de mi última publicación. En esta ocasión traigo para ustedes las fotos de este animalito que vi y me pareció interesante saber de él. Se trata del gusano que viste en la primera foto, conocido por los nombres de oruga peluche, gusano pollo, oruga pollito, gato lanudo o gata peluda, la verdad es que esos dos últimos nombres no los había escuchado antes pero investigando descubrí que algunas personas los identifican así.
Hello dear friends, I return to you a few days after my last publication. On this occasion I bring you the photos of this little animal that I saw and found interesting to know about. It is the worm you saw in the first photo, known by the names of stuffed caterpillar, chicken worm, chick caterpillar, woolly cat or furry cat, the truth is that those last two names I had not heard before but investigating I discovered that some people identify them that way.
Yo lo llamare oruga o gusano peluche porque me parece que se escucha más bonito, además de que la mayoría de las personas lo conocen por ese nombre. Este gusano pertenece a la familia Megalopyge, que son una familia de gusanos muy peligrosos. Por lo general viven en la sombra de los árboles y arbustos que rodean nuestras casas, escuelas y parques.
I'll call it a caterpillar or a cuddly worm because I think it sounds prettier, plus most people know it by that name. This worm belongs to the Megalopyge family, which is a very dangerous family of worms. They usually live in the shade of the trees and bushes that surround our homes, schools and parks.
Este pequeño gusanito lo encontré encima de una hoya caliente en la cocina, me dio mucha tristeza ver como se retorcía por el calor, sabía que si lo dejaba ahí iba a morir, por eso decidí con cuidado y con un palito moverlo hasta una hoja y así tomarle fotos.
This little worm I found on top of a hot hole in the kitchen, it made me very sad to see how it was twisted by the heat, I knew that if I left it there it would die, so I decided to carefully and with a little stick move it to a leaf and take pictures of it.
Si les soy sincera las orugas no son uno de mis animales favoritos, incluso desde pequeña me inculcaron miedo a ellas, me decían que tocarlas era peligroso y que me daría fiebre. Y pues, no era mentira, cuando los pelos de la oruga peluche se frotan o se presionan sobre la piel, se libera veneno.
To be honest, caterpillars are not one of my favorite animals. Even as a child, I was afraid of them and was told that touching them was dangerous and would give me a fever. And so, it wasn't a lie, when the hairs of the stuffed caterpillar are rubbed or pressed against the skin, poison is released.
Los efectos del veneno pueden causar un dolor punzante e intenso, quemazón y un sarpullido o manchas en la piel. Los pacientes más susceptibles pueden presentar hinchazón, náuseas, dolor abdominal, dolor de cabeza, y dificultad respiratoria. En general, el dolor en la herida cede dentro de la hora, y las manchas desaparecen en 1 día.
The effects of the poison can cause severe stabbing pain, burning and a rash or spots on the skin. More susceptible patients may experience swelling, nausea, abdominal pain, headache, and shortness of breath. In general, the wound pain subsides within an hour, and the spots disappear within 1 day.
Así que si pensabas que este es simplemente un indefenso animalito, te equivocas. Cuando están adultos pueden ser bonitos y llamativos, sobre todo para los niños, pero como vez, también pueden hacernos daño.
So if you thought that this is just a defenseless little animal you were wrong. When they are adults they can be beautiful and striking, especially for children, but as you can see, they can also hurt us.
Por si en algún momento te llega a picar una oruga peluche lo más recomendable es lavar la zona de la piel con agua y jabón, secar al aire libre, colocar hielo o alcohol isopropílico, y observar con cuidado de que no te hayan quedado pelitos de la oruga incrustados en la piel.
In case you ever get stung by a stuffed caterpillar, the best thing to do is wash the skin area with soap and water, dry it in the open air, put ice or isopropyl alcohol, and carefully observe that no caterpillar hairs are left on the skin.
Excluyendo el hecho de lo peligroso de este animal, la oruga peluche es sin duda una más de la hermosa variedad de animales que existen en el planeta y también merecen nuestro cuidado, no hay necesidad de matarlos si no nos están haciendo daño y si están en su hábitat natural, con solo alejarnos de ellas es suficiente.
Excluding the fact of how dangerous this animal is, the stuffed caterpillar is undoubtedly one more of the beautiful variety of animals that exist on the planet and also deserve our care, there is no need to kill them if they are not hurting us and if they are in their natural habitat, just moving away from them is enough.
