The magic behavior of grasshoppers, do you know?

in WE ARE MOVING4 years ago (edited)
Hello Guys !!!

Did you know that grasshoppers have one of the special features of striking a group deal? Although it is often seen that they live independently, even though they are not liked by farmers because they are considered disturbing crops, they have an agreement when they want to act and do something that is considered important.

The agreement in preserving a mission is rather heavy in carrying it out, why? Because this mission can sometimes sacrifice their own lives in order to reach an agreement in the success of an agreed mission journey.

It seems that their lives are normal, which means that they look mutually beneficial to themselves, but this assumption can be considered wrong because when they gather and want to do or step towards a goal, each member of the group will uphold the group agreement.

Where is the magic? Let's follow some of the reviews below.

Always waiting for a signal from his superior's essence

As mentioned above that, grasshoppers are seen by the human eye and live individually without anyone controlling their life, this assumption is considered wrong because every area or area that has been controlled by grasshoppers has several signal-giving grasshoppers which are divided into several regions or it can be said that a group, each group of course has a grasshopper whose job it is to catch signals from one of its highest leaders.

In one of the research results written in a paper the research observation team (IPSS Observation Team) Indonesia said that, when the grasshoppers were ready to go out for their activities, they were still waiting for a call signal from one of the small group leaders obtained from the highest superiors to gather, then each grasshopper will notify with the sound of typing its two feet so that one small group can hear the answer to each other.

I heard this myself in one of the residents' plantations, which is behind someone's house, there are many large stones located on public land, between one stone and another, there is a grasshopper perched about 1 meter away, so on each of these stones There are grasshoppers that mutually make sounds that come from their femur. The voice received is then answered by a voice that comes from one other grasshopper. So, with this it is confirmed that between a grasshopper and a grasshopper has a separate relationship in inviting and carrying out all their daily activities.

As mentioned above, at first glance they seem to live individually, meaning they don't need a herd, but in essence grasshoppers are very dependent on one another, because in fact they have a cannibalistic nature when walking to one very far location. Do we still remember? When a few months ago in March 2020, they were marching across the barren desert flying simultaneously towards Africa, they were seen closely tracking each other so that they remained so close to eating each other as they crossed from one desert to another.

The nature of eating each other (cannibalism) occurs in groups, this is not the original nature of grasshoppers, but this applies in times of emergency which is a very efficient strategy for survival, because on long trips or on trips do not find nutrients for the body as food before they reach their goal, they will sacrifice others just to survive.

Then the herd that will be killed and made into food is grasshoppers that have been weak or have run out of energy while on their way to a location targeted by their leader. In general they will know who has had the situation. Thus we can imagine how smart they are in managing a large group so that 70% of the pollution will survive and arrive at the destination. While 30% die or are eaten by others in order to survive.

Then what if they are in a small area?

If they are in a small area or plant locations around us, then this cannibalism will not occur because there is still a lot of food that can be eaten in their host area in the form of green leaves that grow and develop in their area. However, the relationship between groups still occurs.

How do we find out?

This is very easy, if you pay attention. In one small plant habitat, of course, there are hundreds of grasshoppers scattered throughout the plant, so that when entering the afternoon or early morning one of them will make a distinctive sound, namely the sound that comes from the thighbone of his leg that sounds like a sign, that means they are checking for existence herd in the area.

The sound that is issued (answers) is not spontaneous but there is a time lag that varies depending on the group's own hearing. (etc...)

Conclusion

Grasshoppers cannot live by themselves even though they appear alone in each plant, but in essence they remain together even though their distance is separated if they are in a plant, but when they are doing urbanization or other trips, they will line up neatly with harak which is close to.The flight has been arranged by their respective leaders, so that the group will arrive at the destination simultaneously except for the grasshoppers that have run out of energy on their way and sometimes seen the remains of their herd's body in the middle of the path they are on.

The behavior that this grasshopper emits is one of the "Amazing Nature" that we have seen so far, nature has given birth to various phenomena from animals, plants, and even nature itself.

Nature is amazing through grasshoppers so that people are very surprised and confused in witnessing each event. Hopefully what has been written is useful for all of you in tracking this natural miracle.

Thank you very much :-)

Great write up ^^ Their behavior reminds me a bi of human behavior, hehe .. Thanks for these interesting social analysis of the hoppers ;) .. Going to forward it to OCD ^^

Yes ... It's very precise what your friends say, I'm also surprised that they also have a signal from their superiors, thank you very much friends @adalger! For your visit to my blog.....
