Vergelegen Wine estate, Bontebok

202.JPG

A typical African buck that we again encountered today and they call it a Bontebok (Damaliscus pygargus dorcas).

We arrived at the farm to get as close to the mountains as we could, as we have a serious fire burning behind the mountains and I wanted to see if the fire would spill over to our side of the mountains.
Come and walk with us on this beautiful historic farm!

As I said, this is a beautiful old farm and our target was the mountains. This is the last of the road that we walked along.

A beautiful buck and I will show more information about the bucks at the end of this post.

Here we were much closer to the mountains and as I thought, there was the the smoke across the face of the peak in the middle.

Another two of the the bucks here, resting in the soft rainfall.

The best view of the smoke on the peak that we got here.
Thank goodness, it was raining softly and it broke the severe hot weather, which would help to kill the fire.
The brave fire fighters must be very tired as they have been fighting the fire behind the mountains for the past week.

This is the last view of the mountain that I took on camera from our home and it looked like a ball of flame that was scooped up into the smoke cloud by the wind.

The danger is that the wind can blow fire sparks for miles and where the sparks land new fires can be started.
A great plus is that they say we will have more rain tomorrow and it's an answer to many prayers.

Here is more information on the Bontebok at the farm;

There’s every reason to marvel at the Bontebok - they’re not only exquisite, but also living proof that, with the right attitude, threatened extinction can be reversed to steady growth. Today's global Bontebok population is approximately 1950, but in the early 1800s there were only 17 left due to overhunting and extensive killing as pests.

What a fire! What caused it?

Fires are always very disturbing my friend.
They are still investigating the cause of the fire. A big problem over here apart from arson is that people start to burn rubbish without taking the wind into consideration.
A law should be made, no fires on strong windy days.

Blessings!

There should be a law for sure, we have the same problem here, only that now it is illegal to burn stuff in the open air without any approval

Yes, 100% correct Lady Mary, we will promote the need for fire permits to be issued.
Problem is that we live in a very big country and not everybody stick to the law.
Municipalities do not have enough money to employ inspectors, but I think that if they can implement drones to patrol their areas every day, it might make a dent in the fires.

A better option would be a sattelite designed specifically for fire alerts, but that would be a very expensive affair.
Maybe we should approach that wonderkind Musk to design one as he was born over here.

Blessings!

Musk could definetely find a solution of he would be interested

Oh yes, he is already setting up sattelites to distribute a new broadband signal over here and it could be easy to fit camras to the sattelites.

Cheers and !BEER
