Climate change is the change in earths condition, be it temperature, humidity, wind, rainfall atm pressure and other meteorological element. THIS CHANGE can be natural or anthropogenic. Earth has been changeing its climate from a long time due to natural causes. But antropogenic activites are far more worse than the natural cause.
Starting from the industrial revolution,we have seen a lot of change in temperature of earth's surface. It all started from the year 1850 but the effect was minimal. But maximum effect can be seen from last 3 decade. A large portion of forest cover is cleared to set up industries in that particular area. These industries emit harmful gases into the atmosphere which creates disbalance to earths health. I am sure you all are familiar with the term "climate change" and some of us are also taking steps to control as much as we can. Here i am gonna put on some data about the change in climate.
We all know the major greenhouse gases present in the atmosphere out of which Carbon dioxide is most abundent. This is because of presence of carbon dioxide which keeps our earth warmer. Also part of these emited CO2 by burning of fossil fuel is aborbed by forests and partly absorbed by ocean. But from 1950, co2 level raised tremendous and it has not looked back.
A small rise in temperature hampers life on earth a lot. Corals are very saenstive to change in temperature and due to rise in temperatrure from burning of fossil fuels these corals are dying. emission of CO2 is done in almost all activities.
Glaciers are very important for maintaining life on earth. A major portion of suns radiation is reflected by these glaciers which otherwise would be absorbed by earth's surface. They are the freshwater reserivors on earth. But these glaciers are disappearing at very alarming rate. This is due to change in temperature as discussed above. High temperature makes the glaciers to melt which then flows down the mountain and floods the whole region beneath it. The above chart shows the change of glacier mass from 1945 to 2005. There is almost 25% loss of glaciers in about 50 years scale. This loss results in unnecessary floods and loss of crops ,life ,property and many more. The study predicts BY Jean-Baptiste Bosson in 2019,
that glaciers could disappear from almost half of World Heritage sites by 2100 if business-as-usual emissions continue.
This graph shows the ocean acidification that is change in pH of the ocean. . The more co2 is dissolved in the ocean the more acidic it becomes. There are various organisms that can't tolerate a small change in the pH as i discussed about corals before. This can result in biodiversity loss. The above chart shows the decrease in pH from industrial revolution period and also analysis of the future if this process continues
We all are seeing extreme events like rainfall, flood, cyclones, droughts and forest fires. These events are the proof of why we should take care of the earth.
This chart uploaded by the U.S Environmental Agency where it shows data of total of 48 states suffered drought. The negative value indicates the dryer than average condition and positive value indicate wetter value than average condition. The value upto -4 indicates extreme drought.
There are various other reasons too but it will be very long if i start discussing all of them one by one. The above research is enough as an indicator and why we should start acting towards building a greener earth.
