It’s been proven that birds and animals have extrasensory perception about what will happen in the days ahead with the weather. There’s been incidents when they have vacated areas before a disaster hit the region.
In line with this thought, I wonder if the groundhog will leave his burrow on this crisp, cold February 2nd winter’s day and reveal to us how the winter will proceed.
Folklore is ~ if a groundhog leaves his burrow and sees his shadow on Groundhog Day, he’ll retreat to his burrow, a sign that winter will go on for six more weeks, and if he doesn’t see his shadow, it means spring will arrive early.
With the sun shining brightly this morning, I predict the groundhog will see his shadow.
The view from my front porch over the mountain of snow Hubby has snow-blown to keep the driveway clear.
This may sound like old wives tales but this hypothesis about the groundhog and his shadow is taken seriously in this country.
The Forecast this morning by the groundhog called Shubenacadie Sam.
It was on the news that according to her handler, Shubenacadie Sam emerged from her enclosure at the wildlife park north of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and saw her shadow.

This means we had six more weeks of winter weather coming this way. ⛄️
Folklore like this is always intriguing since we really do trust in animals to a certain degree to forecast weather.
Days gone by I could well imagine this being a strong belief, well still some snow for me to visit and enjoy through your lens then Jo.

Birds and animals are your best weather forecast predictors, as for the snow..., I would roll in it like a five year old when I get to see it on the ground.

We are used of having snow till the end of March and sometimes it even snows at the end of April, so six more weeks of Winter here wouldn't surprise me, but we don't have a groundhog that would tell us how long the Winter will go on 😄
Oh yes, you have got quite a lot of snow, dear Jo, it looks so beautiful, and even if the Spring would arrive early, it would take quite some time to melt all that white stuff 🤗

There could be snow here late also. As long as it stays a bit above freezing I don’t mind. There was snow mixed with rain today and it took a bit of the snowbanks down but will take awhile before I see green grass again. 🌾 🙃

Very interesting Jo! We have Punxsutawney Phil in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. He saw his shadow as well. You sure have a lot of snow there. We've been lucky so far but another big system with ice is suppose to come through later today and tomorrow. We are on the edge of snow/ice/rain but more towards rain. It's Maryland though so anything could happen..lol. Take care and hope the next big snow event misses you! 💞

We have a lot more snow than last year but one never knows what to expect with all the changes in climate.
We had storm this Friday but some rain mixed with the snow and took some of the snow banks down a little bit.

Animals have amazing hearing and tracking abilities. Many countries have experienced terrible cold snaps, perhaps due to climate change
Indeed they do @worldstories. This extra ability helps the animals survive. I find the weather this winter goes from one extreme to another and much colder at times than I like. 🥶
