Tséyík´áán ~ Comb Ridge

Comb Ridge is a jagged linear north to south-trending monocline that curves out across the center of the Colorado Plateau from Kayenta in northern Arizona to the foothills of the Abajo Mountains in southern Utah. This is an immense sandstone formation nearly 120 miles long and 1 mile wide.

In First Nations Dine (Navajo) language this ridge is called " Tséyíkʼáán" which translates to “Rock Extends in the Form of a Narrow Edge.”

The unusual geologic structure is a vivid surface expression of the deep fault that lays along the east margin of the Monument Uplift. This massive blunt-rock extension happened almost 65 million years ago when the Earth's tectonic plates that are buried deep under the earth’s surface violently slipped.

This geologic event was monumental, leaving a huge rugged scar across the face of the once smooth stone. These jagged scared and weathered crags sharply tower up steep summits then fall into unexpected depths with staggering and sudden recurrence. They loom from 300 to 900 feet above the empty plains, before disappearing into the surrounding washes.

The eastern side of the reef has numerous short box canyons, many with springs, seeps, and other sources of water such as pour-over pools. Ancient Ancestral Puebloans, also known as Anasazi, found refuge and built settlements on the long benches, and in tucked-away alcoves that line the canyon walls, which they also intensely decorated with countless pictographs and petroglyphs.

The existence of the ancient Anasazi people is present as ruins and rock art along the rock canvas of shallow cave walls. Archaeological surveys of Comb Ridge revealed many of the formation’s ancient secrets, Including Ice Age camps and 800-year-old Ancestral Puebloan cliff dwellings, along with historic artifacts of latter Anglo settlers, and numerous strange "lanes" carved into the earth across miles of desert, scattered with remnants of Hopi pottery. Perhaps these are very old Anasazi roads that connected places of significance, such as providing paths for the Pueblo people to visit ancient shrines.

MEDIA ~ NON FUNGIBLE TOKEN ~ CINEMATIC

I am offering this Micro Cinematic Journey as a collectible/tradable Non-Fungible Token through Opensea.io

This NFT offering is an extremely rare set of components wrapped together as a Micro Cinematic Journey; the imagery is lensed while filming through an open cockpit window in-flight while I simultaneously pilot the bush plane. I also composed, performed, and recorded the musical soundtrack, wrote and voiced the narration, and edited the Micro Cinema short.

The owner of this MEDIA-NFT can download a high-resolution version of the film for their personal viewing. Zedekiah Morse and ZkyPilot Productions retain all copyright ownership to this artwork.

Where Eagles Fly is my solo aerial expedition to explore and chronicle wilderness spaces throughout the North American continent. I seek to discover forgotten histories and experience visions of our wondrous planet from that lofty space "Where Eagles Fly"
