Had an amazing adventure getting out to the rocky mountains for some Canadian winter camping. Yup, it was cold, but it was great fun. I've always enjoyed winter camping and this weekend it was a bit warmer than most so we figured we should take advantage of that.
That was my hammock setup, its got a under quilt, I use a summer sleeping bag with an extra wool blanket and layers of clothing of course to stay warm at night.
The trek out was along a river and cross country skiing is our method of choice in the winter since we pull sleds and don't really have to worry about how much weight you are hauling that way since the sled holds it all.
There was fresh powder on the river however and we were pushing through about 5 inches of power, but that is what makes for some great ski/sled conditions anyway. This is on a base of about 12inches of snow on top of the ice in most areas.
Just chilling after the ski in to see the awesome blue skies and rest before making supper and a fire.
I went back along the river to get a few more shots as the sun was low ins the sky.
Here is my hammock sleep system, had this awesome wall of flood water trees between my buddy and I, it was like we had rooms in the wilderness. haha.
And it was started to get dark so cranked up a fire to stay warm and make supper at.
Turned out to be a cold -15degC night, so the fire was essential to stay warm as we ate and chilled out for the evening. The hammock and sleeping gear was fine, although it being a cold night, the worst is getting up and having to restart the fire when its -15 out. Brrrr...
And here we are all packed up and ready to head back upriver in the morning.
Some beautiful shots with the frosted trees on our way back.
It was an awesome adventure, another great over night in the Rockies. Can't wait for the next one as we are getting closer to spring.
That sounds very cold, but it looks very picturesque with the sun shining. Great to see some of that Canadian wilderness in winter.
