Arachnids - Barn Funnel Weaver

in WE ARE MOVING4 years ago (edited)

Seasons are changing, autumn (fall) is around the corner, and so more and more spiders are making their way into our four-wall buildings i.e. houses. Some of them are venturing indoors for finding their partners to mate, and some are just stopping by, and thus making people like me jumpy. Just to mention, in case you don't already know, I'm not particularly keen on arachnids and could say I've got a mild-ish case of Arachnophobia going on here.

As I returned from work this morning, did this and that, and as I was about to have breakfast whilst watching TV; I've spotted this 'decent size' spider on the wall. I can't remember last time when I've even thought of hurting a spider despite disliking it. So, for me, one of the best options to remove it out of the house is by trapping it in a slightly wet & biggest glass I can find. But, why not to take the opportunity and try to snap a couple of photographs before releasing it over the fence in to neighbour's garden?!

I must point out that the spider was feeling agitated and was moving around the glass constantly, making my photo taking experience much harder. Bare in mind the camera was shaking more than enough as I was waiting for it to literally jump on me as I tilted the glass slightly. Also, taking a photo of an item inside of a tall glass was extra challenging due to reflection being thrown in all directions.
Nevertheless, here are a couple of photographs for you to hopefully enjoy whilst I look at it no more then I should've whilst posting this short blog of mine.

A few points about this type of spider:

  • Its Latin name is Tagenaria domestica.
  • Is common sight across the whole Europe.
  • Female spiders of this kind are about 1/3 bigger in body size.
  • Male spiders of this kind have longer legs whilst female spiders of this kind have bigger body.
  • They rarely bite and if that is to happen, bite is apparently painless.
  • Despite painless bite and that they bite on a very very rare occasion, I'm still getting shivers down my spine just looking at it.

The amount of time I've jumped for no reason whilst typing this is beyond staggering. Now I know how my friend feels whilst being around moths, so, I'll give her a break with teasing, but just for a little while.

As mentioned in my story, this arachnid was not harmed in any way, shape or from. Slightly scared maybe, but I think I was the one more frightened here.

Thanks for stopping by and take care.
