Striking New Bird in our neighborhood (pictures & video)

My niece and nephew have been staying with us for around a week and, today, I thought to take them for a walk by the canal to feed the ducks 🦆

It’s a fairly short walk to get to the water and when we arrived, we found egrets/white herons, everywhere: in the trees and on the street!

Naturally, the little people were thrilled to pieces 🤗

I brought with us a bag of shredded lettuce 🥬 abd another of diced bread. The rule was we were not to litter, and only to give them more food only after they had eaten what we had, already, given them.

It was sweet to see baby ducks, sitting by the water and I made sure the kiddies gave them ample space.

What we did not expect was the arrival of this spectacular black bird — who was not the least interested in the food or us & seemed as proud & exotic as a peacock 🦚

After His Majesty was done sunbathing he dove after the food that we had thrown in to feed the turtles 🐢 which had shown up.

We bid the remarkable dark creature adieu and continued down the canal, after around an hour, to head home as the kids were getting a little rowdy.

On our way back, we decided to pass through a small neighborhood park.

Overhead, we could see a giant falcon circling and clutched the one year old for dear life, as we caught sight of another large bird sunbathing.

All in all, it was a lively hour and a half walk and to cap it off we were lucky to greeted by a small rainbow 🌈 at the water fountain ⛲️

What a bonus seeing the other birds on your walk
Nice to read you make sure they eat what you give them and don’t litter I have seen others do that here and hate seeing piles of food left there

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

Thank you, for your warm message :) I had read, before heading out for a walk, that discarded food can cause bacteria which makes ducks sick, so I tried to be mindfull. Also, I did not know that they liked lettuce, but looked that up as well.

I'm grateful you/Wednesday Walk community appreciate this virtual tour of our neighborhood. Wishing you a Happy New Year, soon!

Yes lettuce and grain is good for then when eating fresh

Happy New Year to you and yours

We appreciate your work and your post has been manually curated by zoology team (oscurity, nelinoeva) on behalf of Amazing Nature Community. Keep up the good work!
