Hello hivers and the needle work community. It’s my very first post here and I’m excited to finally join the #needleworkmonday. It’s been a while since I worked on a piece and out of boredom today, I picked up my crocheting pin. I want to share with you the crop butterfly top I made.
I didn’t want to do a basic crop top so I tried something different and challenging. It took me about 2-3hrs to make as i was trying a different pattern so it was really tasking.
MATERIALS USED
•4mm crochet hook
•1 acrylic white yarn
•Scissors
The process was a really long one with repetition of patterns in between. I’ll try to document the patterns I remember because it was a process of trial and error as it was my first time making it.
PROCESS(CENTER OF THE BUTTERFLY)
I started with the center of the butterfly.
For row one- I made a slip knot and I chained up 4 to prepare my double crochet. I went into the very first chain with a total of 3 double crochets.
I flipped my yarn preparing for row 2 and then I chained up 3, skipped the first chain and went into the rest of my stitches with a double crochet in each.
For row 3, I repeated the same pattern as row 2. For row 4, I increased a bit. I chained up 3 and went into the very first stitch with a double crochet, not skipping as I did in row 2 & 3.
I continued with a double crochet for the rest of the stitches on row 4 but for the last stitch, I placed 2 double crochets.
Moving on to row 5 ,6, & 7, I repeated the same pattern as row 4.
At the end of row 7, I made a very long chain of 100-120 for the straps I’d tie at the back of my neck on both sides and then I cut.
I’d say this was the simplest part of the top, except the chain for the back straps lol.
THE WINGS
I started with the left wing first. I attached my yarn to the left side of the fifth row of the center of the butterfly I made.
I chained up 5 and I double crocheted into the same exact spot I attached my yarn, chained up 5, I placed one double crochet between the space of row 4 and row 5,chained up 2 and place one more double crochet into the same stitch.
I chained up 3 again, went into the space between the third and the fourth row and placed one double crochet, I chained 2 and placed one more double crochet in the same stitch.
For row 2 of the wing, I chained up two, I placed three double crochet in the first chain space and in the next three chain spaces.
For second to the last chain space on that row, I placed 5 double crochet in it and for the last chain space, I placed one double crochet in that space.
I made a few mistakes and I had to loosen. Any crocheter would relate to how painful this is during any project, having to loosen and start over.
I had to take a short break because I was getting exhausted and at one point I was close to tears as I really wanted to get this top done.
I tried studying a few pictures of some butterfly tops to see if I’d form a pattern from my head but it wasn’t working.
I gave up and headed to YouTube for a guide. I watched a tutorial of a creative who made the same top I was trying to make and I then I figured what I wasn’t getting right.
Finally I was able to follow accordingly and ended up getting it right.
I made each of the wings(L-R) before joining.
When I was done joining the wings to the center, I made long straps on each of the edge of the wings to enable me tie to my back or make a cris-cross.
I trimmed all wools hanging with my scissors and my top was ready. It came out even better than I expected and I was really excited that i tried something new and I achieved my goal for today.
I took a few pictures with them, although not a lot because I was exhausted from all the mental gymnastics and studying I did.- -
I hope you like this top I made and I hope to share another project next week.

Wow! The top is nice and it looks sexy on you. It took just 2–3 hours? Wow! You're a pro... And despite the challenges you faced during the process, I'm glad the piece came out nice in the end. Well done babe 💕
Thank you boo😊
Yeah 2-3hours at a stretch but it wasn’t easy o
You should try it too👀
Wow, you have turned out beautifully. I would like to make one, but I know it takes a lot of material, and for now I don't have so much material 😟 maybe in the future I can, thank you very much for sharing your post and welcome in the community, and I hope you feel comfortable.Success 💞
Hii, thank you for stopping by & for the compliment💗
It doesn’t take a lot of material at all, I used less than half of the ball of yarn I posted, that’s for a size small.
But it shouldn’t take more than one ball of yarn to make for any size at all and you just need a pin and a scissors alongside, that’s all.
You should try making it soon💗
