It's another exciting new week to showcase our beautiful projects. Hope you're doing okay?
I made a video last week on how to take an accurate measurement and I'm glad many people found it helpful.
I've decided to be shuffling some sewing tips and sharing my projects. Which means next week, I'll share another tip but today, I want to share with you my second project in class using a pattern to draft.
Prior to now, I was so comfortable with free hands and found it quite tiring or complex to make use of patterns to draft an outfit.
Everything changed when I enrolled for an upgrade. They started with the basic bodice on pattern drafting and I must confess, it's not as complex as I thought.
The fabric I made use of was Calico fabric, also known as Muslin.
The first step to achieving any outfit is to draft out a basic bodice and then alter while you work.
To achieve this blouse, I made use of my bust circumference measurements, hip, waist, under bust, shoulder,front and back length.
I now have a lot of pattern papers for drafting. Pencil, straight ruler, curve ruler, tape rule and eraser.
After drafting, I used my paper scissors to cut out my pattern and placed it on the calico fabrics.
I added 0.5 inches allowance for the shoulder and armhole and added 2inches for the hem.
The seam allowance was just an inch since it was my accurate bodice.
I cut them out gently and notched the areas that needed notching.
Here was what it looked like after cutting so I headed to my sewing machine to turn the neckline, and join the front and back length.
After that, I drafted my basic sleeve for this outfit using another pattern paper.
The sleeves had no alterations as it just a long sleeve with no style.
I joined the zipper in a very neat way using the little neckline living to secure.
I hemmed the length of the fabrics and this is what it looked like.
The pant trouser had been made by me a very long time ago so I just paired the top with it.
I took different angles of the putfit so that you all can see.
The front view, side view and back view. One thing I love about pattern drafting is how it accurately transfer one's measurement to the fabric and when things aren't right, one can easily see the mistake before sewing to completion.
Another thing I love about it is how it allows the zipper sit properly without any bulge.
This outfit was my second assignment which I submitted last week Friday. What do you think about it the blouse? What would you love to learn from me? I'll be willing to share my knowledge with you next week when I make a post on my fashion hacks.
