It is the holiday season which means it’s the perfect time for gifts. When it comes to gift giving, what matters most to me is the thought behind the gift and that’s why when I give gifts I try to give thoughtful gifts. Something that I feel would be of value to the person I am giving the gift to.
The first gift I am giving this season is going to my older brother. It is easy for men to get neglected sometimes and I would say I am guilty of that. I say this because it’s been a long time since I gave a gift to my brother and I don’t like that.
I decided that if I was going to give him a gift after a long time it had to be something that I would put a lot of effort into and something that would be of much use to him, so I settled for making a hooded sweater because I know how much my brother loves those.
For a while, I have been using the mini bean stitch for most of my sweaters but I wanted to do something different with this one. So I did some research and concluded I liked the look of the Suzette stitch, since I have not worked with this stitch before now seemed like a perfect time.
The colors were easy to settle on, I just asked my brother what his two favorite colors were, he chose white and yellow so I worked with that. I am noticing a pattern amongst men, I think they have a thing for the color yellow, I don’t know why but most men around me seem to love yellow. There was a time when I would argue that only women wear yellow, but I am not so sure anymore.
Anyway, I got started on the project and it was easier than I thought. I may have gotten used to the mini bean stitch and I thought going back to SC, DC would be a struggle, however, the project built up well, even faster than that of the mini bean. While this is great, I would pick the mini-bean finish over and over again.
It has this warm yet thick feeling that I love, the finished project always feels so soft and I just know I could wear it all day, it’s great really. One thing I didn’t change was the stitch for the handcuff and body, I think the back loop single crochet works great and I am sticking with that.
I can’t give an exact time frame for this project because I was doing other in between but if I were to guess, I’d say I used around 35-40 hours in total on this sweatshirt. This is my first time making a sweater hoodie and I used to think it would be difficult but it was the easiest thing ever, although it consumed much yarn I’m not mad about it. The result is cute, so it is worth it.
I delivered the sweater this weekend and my brother loved it which makes me so happy. He did say something about pockets, so I told him I would add that next time but overall he was pleased with it.
Here is the final look, I hope you like it too.
