Sunshine and smiles, Hivers! It’s been a while since my last blog post. In this blog, I’m excited to share to you all my journey in creating and enhancing my skills in creating crochet tops. Let’s get started!

1000025093.png

I began improving my crochet skills in making crochet garments back in 2020. I have always admired those talented crochet artists who excel in making garments as this craft is quite hard and challenging since you need to ensure the sizing and the details are correct before adding the finishing touches. For your information, I’m a crochet artist and crocheting clothes isn't my forte, but I’m currently practicing because I wanted to wear my creations in public to attract potential buyers and to see if my work is ready to sale or need some improvements.

The very first piece I created was a butterfly top. I found the pattern from a random YouTube video (I forgot the name). Just so you know, I completed this butterfly top only a week after I started crocheting. Yes, I continually motivated myself with this kind of project, which isn’t very beginner-friendly. The video I followed had Tagalog subtitles which the language I use occasionally, and it took me three days to finally finish this top. In this project, I used 8ply purple and pastel yellow soft polyester 100grams each.

As you can see on the details, the rows under the wings of the butterfly top is not the same size from the other wings. Thus, I didn't even count the rows and forgot to see those mistake before I completely lock all the strands of yarns.

Overall, it was nice and perfectly suited me well, but there was too much skin showing. My mother's friend told me she was interest in buying this butterfly top because she said that it was beautiful and suited for her. I agreed with her and offered a discount since she was my first customer and the first person to buy my crochet top.

The next crochet top I created is a tube top. I worked on this top freehanded, as I wanted to improve my skills by not following a pattern and instead making my own design. I use 4ply milk cotton 150 grams for this top.

I gifted this to my sister @elyssagween and took some photos of her wearing it to post on my crochet business page, both for promotion and to inform my followers that I made this type of top.

The third piece I made is a freehanded corset top. Unfortunately, this corset top has a mistake of yarn used because I used a 8-ply milk cotton yarn instead of indophil yarn, which made it look quite chunky on me. It took me two days to finish this, as I could only work on it each night due to my morning classes.

The fourth creation was another butterfly top. By this stage, it turned out perfectly, but it was an XXL size and didn't fit me. In this butterfly top, I used 100grams of indophil yarn, both colors. I added some extra rows to ensure it wouldn’t be too tight on my body. However, when I tried wearing, it was loose around the bust area. It was quite exhausted to unravel the yarn again, so I decided to give this top to my cousin, who is larger than I am.

The next piece is a freehanded black corset top. I really wanted to improve my skills in making corsets because I found it somewhat challenging, particularly with sizing. The corset I created turned out perfectly. Everything from the details to the sizing was just right, with no errors. This is the first crochet top I’ve made that I consider perfect, and it fills me with joy. I used 5ply black indophil yarn 100grams for this project. It took me 1 week to finished because of the details and unraveling yarns when I made mistakes in sizing and details.

Finally, this crochet top is my own freehand design. It was inspired by the chlamys top, but I made some revisions. I used 3ply burgundy indophil yarn 500grams for this project. As you can see in the photo, the crochet top that i made was resembled a babydoll top. Instead of using very thin straps, I decided to make a ribbon-style straps since they look cute and can be adjusted to your preference. I also changed the type of stitch I used for this top. The stitch that I used for this is just a single crochet and a double crochet alternating.

In the picture, you’ll see I placed a pearl pin at the center, as I'm still undecided whether to add a ribbon or just stick with the pin. It took me 2 weeks to finish this top since I was the one who designed all the details of the top and also, unraveling the yarns whenever I made mistakes is one of the reasons why it took longer to finish.

This was the details at the back of the top. I created a ribbon strap at the back as well to match with the other straps. I was very happy with how it turned out. Although I didn't write the pattern for this project, I still need to finalize the design since there are small details I plan to add and revise. Perhaps soon I can conclude a pattern testing for this top when it was ready. I gave this top to my mother because she wanted to wear this on her nephew's debut. I also decided to make another one in violet color if I have time.

And that's the end of my blog, Hivers! Creating this crochet top has not been easy for me. It needs lots of yarns and wide knowledge and practice in crocheting to create a perfect crochet piece. You should also master the sizing in making crochet clothes because for me, I find particularly challenging and I still need more practice to enhance my capabilities in making them. I hope I can learn that in the future and improve my sizing skills.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog! If you’re also a crochet enthusiast, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the comments in creating crochet tops. See you in my next blog, hivers! Ciao!

Your really have a magical hand. Like how can you do that? Maybe you are a very patient person. Hehe. All of your creations are very impressive especially the last piece you made.

Wooah, these are amazing, especially the red one! ❤️ It looks just like those tops you see online, it's perfectly crafted! I tried crocheting before because I really wanted to make my own tops, but my patience just couldn't handle it. I got frustrated because it’s hard, and I wanted to learn right away, but I couldn’t that's why I gave up.😂

That craft is on another level! You nailed it! 👌
