Crocheting A Black And White Scrunchie For My Sister!

Hello everyone in this great community, I'm so happy to be here again for the second time and I hope you like what I made today.

I just started crocheting again after many years away from it and this happens to be my second project. It was actually my sister who said I should make a scrunchie for her and I did oblige her. It was fun though, trying to navigate through the whole process.

Today I used single crochet stitches and double crochet stitches as I become more comfortable with more.

As you can see, I'm using two different colours of yarn, white and black, a 3.0mm crocheting hook and a black elastic hairband.

I attach my black yarn to the elastic band, make a slip knot and attach it to my hook.

Then I insert the hook under the elastic band, pull up a loop, and chain 1. and then work single crochet (sc) stitches around the band until it is fully covered with the black yarn.

I slip stitch (sl st) to the first stitch to join as you can see below. That is round one dusted!

In this second step, I start with crocheting the scrunchie ruffles with my black yarn

I proceed with Chain 3 which counts as the first double crochet (dc) for round 2, working 2 dc in the same stitch, increasing the stitch count for ruffles. Then I continue making 3 dc in each stitch around the band to create ruffles. Lastly I slip stitch to join. Round two dusted.

I wanted a very full scrunchie for my lady so I went round two more rounds, making a total of four rounds. Then I fasten off and weave in the black yarn ends.

With a slip knot, I attach the white yarn to any stitch.
Chain 1, then work single crochets (sc) around the ruffled edge, the first round (white) and then the second.
Then I slip stitch to join, fasten off, and weave in the ends.

Final look!

I started loving this two-tone look of the scrunchie and I promised myself I was going to make one for me.

My sister rocking it!!!
