Greetings dear lovely creators on Hive, I hope your week has been good so far, wishing everyone a pleasant day ahead.
So far this year, I think this week has been the most hectic for me physically emotionally, and financially trying to solve some personal issues , one of which is accommodation being one basic human need, it's one thing raising funds and another to get a comfortable and peaceful environment, because that's what makes a home Home, right
Passing through this challenging phase has had me feeling down, and I must admit that it's been tough to stay motivated, though I know it will pass very soon, However, I've learned that sometimes, to maintain a healthy mental state, it is okay to take a break and seek support from loved ones as it can make a lot difference. That's why I decided to spend the day at my parent's house to clear my mind and recharge
No matter how down I feel, being at my parents' home, always elevates my spirit, there is something about being surrounded by loved ones that makes me feel safe and supported and that is how I found myself getting motivated with the right energy to do this simple DIY summer blouse,
I saw my dad trying to throw away some shirts he had abandoned for some time. You know how I feel about upcycling items instead of just trashing them, especially when they are very functional for you or another person, not wanting to allow those quality shirts to go to waste, I started by upcycling one of them into this beautiful blouse, as I type now, I feel very comfy and happy to make this blouse, and my dad now feels guilty to have want to throw it out.
My mum has a sewing machine she hasn't used in a while, I initially thought it would fail me, but surprisingly, it did not, encouraging me more to get on this DIY. For me sewing has a way of calming the storm I feel within, I felt my worries slowly fading away as I sewed and transformed the old shirt into a beautiful blouse.
here is what the oversized shirt looked like before
- The first thing I did was cut out the sleeves and collar area,
- I also trimmed out the sides
- continuing, I piped the armhole area and also created loop casing on the front and back chest area
- Using the cutout pieces, I made a long loop
- which I passed around the loop case I created, and viola!
my beautiful summer dress is ready, taking even less time and stress to create
I hope someone gets inspired not to throw away that favourite fabric, or shirt you no longer wear, but rather, turn it into something simple and fun that can be easily worn. Sewing can be therapeutic you know, I feel much better than I did when I came over, and I'm more hopeful for good news soon

Wow, who knew sewing could save the day?
The blouse is so pretty! Knowing your way around a sewing machine is really is a superpower, I never would have known that such a nice outfit could be made from a boring shirt.
Well done! this is really inspiring, and I'm glad that making this blouse helped take your mind off the stress of accommodation.
Sewing does a lot for me and I am grateful to have learned this skill and still learning.

We definitely need more summer dresses at this time and it's good that you have creatively recycled one for yourself.
