Creating a stunning blouse with dramatic sleeves

in NeedleWorkMonday14 hours ago

Greetings dear hivers hope you are all having a lovely day wherever you are, The first month of the year is almost over, and looking back at my progress for the month, I'm happy with my dedication and the result I got for this month, even though this month was supposed to be my work free month, still, I couldn't help it bringing the creative ideas I had in mind to live and also celebrating friends and loved ones born the month of January is a must for me.

For my last project of the month, I made this beautiful blouse with dramatic sleeves for a young friend of mine, who I can also refer to as a fashion enthusiast, even at the very young age of 15, she came to me alongside her classmates with about 2 yards of this beautiful ankara fabric for each of them, asking that I make her a simple blouse with dramatic sleeves, they would be graduating from high school this year and it is a common tradition to see students celebrate this feat by organizing a sign-off/ last day of exam party,

and as expected they wanted a dramatic yet simple look, to be worn over a jean trouser, an infusion of casual/traditional look, I came up with different ideas, and they fell in love with this extended triple sleeve style though this would be my first trial, I already had an idea of how it would turn out and even made a sketch for them.

Making the bodice was kind of a smooth tide, but the sleeves kind of gave me stress at some point, which I would share later on in the making process, without further ado, let's get right to it.

Materials needed

  • Ankara fabric
  • Cotton lining
  • elastic band
  • zipper

Cutting and Sewing Process

  • For the bodice, I made use of an off-the-shoulder pattern for both front and back, deducting 5 inches from the normal blouse length.

  • I repeated the same cutting process with the lining fabric, which I used to turn the main ankara fabric after joining the patterns.

  • Continuing, I joined both front and back by their sides and sewed in a zipper to the backside.

  • For the sleeves, at first, I cut out an off-shoulder sleeve, depicting the same 5 inches I did for the blouse, making sure the length extended beyond the sleeves though, but later discovered I shouldn't have deducted it, since the sleeves were to be worn as a full and not off the shoulder sleeve.

  • The puffs were achieved by sewing and gathering it with an elastic around the elbow and three-quarter sleeve length, forming a kind of flare effect at the third step.

Bring this final beautiful look to life, the more amazing part is that it can be styled in two ways, as you have seen in the images above, I'm impressed at how it turned out, and would also make one for myself.

Thank you for reading.❤❤

The blouse is indeed stunning, great choice of fabric as well. Thanks for sharing this beautiful blouse with the community and for also leaving a detailed tutorial for whoever wishes to recreate this style. Well done.

Thank you very much, it is my pleasure❤❤

It is a very nice blouse, very well drawn with a lining that makes it different in texture, the cuts make this design allow you to wear a different silhouette.

Than you Laura

The cuts make this design allow you to wear a different silhouette

Yes, it does

The cuts perform that miracle when the body is not so sculpted.😊

I am not good when it comes to the sense of fashion. But It think you have done an amazing job. I think it's good.

Thank you @intishar I want to think I'm giving you enough fashion info here 😊

The final product is so cute. I would have guessed it was ready-made and bought in a boutique.
You're good!!. There's no doubt the girls were satisfied with it.

Well done.

Aww Thanks you Zita,🥰🥰

It was very pretty, and the sleeves add a lot of personality to this blouse. Your client will be happy and she will look very fashionable with this design. Good luck. Congratulations.
