Designing My Sister's Bridal Outfit

Seasons greetings dear friends on Hive, I hope we are all looking forward to enjoying this holiday season, feeling so grateful for a good year, and wish everyone a more blessed new year ahead.

It's another exciting Needleworkmonday, and just as I promised a week ago, I will be sharing with us the traditional bridal attire I made for my younger sister who got hitched to the love of her life, taking the bold step to take the forever vow, I won't be lying If I said it was the happiest day of my life this year, even though I am not the bride, I was also a celebrant that day, I mean, what beats having your sister set her wedding day on the same day as your birthday, 7th December 2024 was indeed a memorable day.

The moment I was informed about my sister's upcoming wedding, I immediately started to think of different beautiful styles I would design to make her the most beautiful bride, but I had just less than two weeks to bring the design to life, which was too short for a bridal design, coupled with the fact that I also have to make my dress, my other siblings and my mum's dress as well, to be honest, it was also the most exhausting two sewing weeks ever.

The first process was fabric sourcing, and it is customary for the couples to be adorned in traditional attire, coming from the southern part of Nigeria, the common attire for the couple is the George fabric, this is because it is luxury fabric, and symbolizes that the couple would experience great wealth in their marriage, though not forced, as there are George of different price range, making it affordable for everybody.

You would think as a fashion designer, my sister would be a bit. Fashion inclined, but that's the opposite, from the color of the fabric to the styling, was all left on my shoulders, she trusted me to come up with something gorgeous for her, and I did just that.

Materials used

  • George Fabric
  • Satin Fabric
  • Boning
  • Bra cups
  • Skin tone tulle
  • Organza fabric
  • stone beads, cup chai,n, etc

The Making Process

  • I started by drafting and cutting out the upper base of the dress, using a corset pattern

  • Next, I joined the pattern pieces together
  • I also inserted the boning and bra cups into the corset

  • For the base of the dress, I used a straight skirt pattern

  • The dress was ready for the first fitting at that point, my sister was already very happy with this look, little did she know that this was just the beginning.

  • I sewed the skin tulle on the upper part of the dress and also used the time to make her serves
  • Using the embroidery hem of the George fabric to design its hem and the bust area.

  • To finish this look, I beaded the waist and a part of the hip, draping the tulle that paired with the George fabric, to give it a wrapper effect.

And that completed this beautiful bridal look.

My sister indeed made a very beautiful bride, wishing her a happy married life filled with God blessings, and may her marriage be as ever beautiful and happy as she Was on her wedding day.

I love the fabric and the embellishments. You did a great job on this dress and I didn’t know bridal dresses were this complicated. Either way, you killed it 🔥

Thank you❤ its just adding simpler designs into one, not so complicated😅😅
