Happy New Week to you all lovely creators on Hive, I hope we are already in a great mood for the week, it's still easter and a lot of us are observing the easter Monday break, taking the time to rest and spend more time with our families.
Well, my children decided to spend the Easter break with Grandma giving me more time to myself, sometimes we don't know how motherhood can be a full-time job, combined with my job, it gets exhausting most times that I wonder how I often find the energy to juggle all together, which makes me appreciate my mum the more because she had five of us to take care of even as a businesswoman and still is an excellent grandma today.
Before they left for Grandma's place, I decided to make a chic easter dress for her so they wouldn't go empty-handed as they are surely going to have a lot to enjoy at Grandma's house, the reason they love spending their holiday at her place and she also loves a having them around.
I made her dress using this beautiful pattern kampala fabric a traditional fabric mostly found here, I'm not sure if it's found outside the country as well, what I love about this fabric is it's very lightweight and also very flexible and makes very comfy dresses popularly known as Bubu, meaning free fitting dress.
I made this dress using just 2 yards of the Kampala fabric and extended the length with beautiful fringes.
Without further ado, let's get right into the making process, which I'm sure you will find very easy and fun to do in case you have any 2 yards of fabric and are not sure of what to make of it.
- I started by folding the fabric in four folds, then measured a basic kimono gown pattern on it, which involves determining the neckline, bust, waist, hip, and length of the dress, I also added extra seam allowance for the free fitting.
- I first cut out the back neckline which is about 1.5 inches before separating the front and back pattern to cut the front V neckline
- Next, I cut out the facing of both the front and back neckline which I used to turn the neckline.
- To add more details to the V-front neckline, I sewed this velvet bias to V-neck
- Next, I joined the front and back by the shoulder
- Continuing, I hemmed the sleeve, and I also joined the side of the dress
- Finally, I sewed the purple color fringe to the hem of the dress and the sleeve hem as well, giving this beautiful final look.
Grandma was happy to receive her new easter dress as she happily wore it immediately and danced in her new dress, typical of an African mum, and I am happy I was able to make her feel happy, I wish the break would be extended but school is starting soon so they would have to be back home during the week, but I'm sure they already have their full of fun, so I'm taking the day off to have the much-needed rest.
I hope you enjoyed reading through this post.
