Overcoming Fears As I Master The Art Of Shirt Making, Creating A Color-Blocked Shirt.

in NeedleWorkMonday26 days ago

A wonderful new week to you all dear hivers, I wish for everyone all your desires come true this week and beyond.

It's a bright sunny day over here, the perfect weather for a Monday, to help keep us motivated as we kickstart the new week, and more importantly it is another exciting Needleworkmonday, who else feels incomplete without being a part of this creative community on a Monday? I sure do, and yeah, I have another beautiful creation to share with you all today.

Have you ever heard the saying that a good turn deserves another, we can likewise say that a good creation deserves another. I made a colorful shirt for a friend of mine, it came out so beautiful which she was grateful for, and requested that I make her a new pair, but this time for her sister, since they live together, she asked that I change the colors for easy differentiation, so I decided to make use of orange and pink colored light crepe fabric this time.

Making a shirt is quite easy, of course, this is after many practices, as I also had that initial fear, especially for long-sleeved shirts, not giving up even after several errors in the past, makes me now confident in making any shirt, whatever form in fact, new designs excites me the more.

Making Process

IMG_20241019_113251_768.jpg

  • I started by drafting and cutting out the shirt pattern, the front had two patterns, cut out of two different colors, while the back is still the orange color

IMG_20241019_123904_353.jpg

  • Next, I cut out the v-shaped neckline, folded the middle button area of both front, and also joined them by the shoulders.

  • The shirt is a cut together sleeves, and stops at the bicep, to elongate the sleeve, I cut out the remaining sleeve length on a fold from both colors

  • And also cut out the cuffs for each sleeve

IMG_20241019_140229_252.jpg

  • Here, I've sewed them to the shirt and also joined the shirt by the sides.

IMG_20241019_140223_096.jpg

  • To make the collar, I measured around the neckline of the shirt, and cut it out as a radius of a circle, to make it narrow around the neck.

IMG_20241020_080554_334.jpg

  • Finally, I ironed a stay to the collar to stiffen it, then turned and sewed it around the neckline, before hemming the shirt.

And that completes the making process of this beautiful color-blocked shirt.

The color combination is so nice
The shirt is pretty

Ooooh, this is really nice, dear @glorydee !! A beautiful contrast of colours, which I love in clothing... Beautiful work, and I love your mentioning getting over fears: it seems like the more I sew, the more fears come up to be released - all good in the long run... Every project brings new and deeper confidence... Onwards and upwards, friend!

😍

This is very pretty and definitely a great idea to be able to differentiate from she and her sister’s. You’re right.. I feel so incomplete not particularly in nwm today but I’m definitely doing it tomorrow.

I think I just learnt a new way of cutting shirt, your friend's sister will definitely like it.
