Overcoming The Twisted Knot Slit Dress Challenge

in NeedleWorkMonday3 months ago

Greetings dear creative Hivers, so glad to finally share with you all my most tricky or should I say difficult dress I made so far in the year 2024. Yes, you read that right, people often wonder if I ever find it difficult to make some certain dress style well the truth to that question is that I do too, as learning never stops and you know how vast the world of fashion can be, I don't think it's even possible for one person to complete making the whole design ever known to man.

I'm never comfortable in my comfort zone when it comes to creativity, especially dressmaking/styling since it is my passion, when I feel too comfortable, I tend to want to try out something new, get over the boredom of doing the same thing over and over again and just get my brain thinking critically to overcome the seemingly difficult challenge I'm faced with, I used the word 'seemingly' because that Is always how they appear till it is cracked, then the seemingly difficult situation now becomes easy.

I was surfing the internet, Pinterest precisely when I came across the reel of a similar dress pattern adorned by a beautiful model, it looked so pretty and sophisticated, but what really caught my attention is the twisted knot slit in front, I have once made a knot twisted blouse, but it was nothing like this one that ran win to a slit, and more interestingly, it was neither a blouse, not a skirt,

but a fitted gown, which can be very tricky to achieve, to be sincere, I spent weeks trying to draft and sew this dress in my mind 😅😅 which always led me to a blockage before I finally cracked the code secret to achieving this beautiful dress, adding little alterations to mine, and when I did succeed on my mind, I dared to bring it to life, making sure I didn't condemn my fabric.

Materials Used

  • Light crepe fabric
  • Thread
  • Zipper

Cutting And Sewing Process*

  • The first thing I did was to draft the full gown length pattern on a pattern paper
  • Which I used to cut out the back pattern

  • Then Slashed an spread the pattern, which I used in cutting the front fabric pattern

  • I sewed in zipper to the back after turning the necklines using the bias strip

  • Here, I sewed one pattern of the front and passed the smaller pattern on the little space left to achieve the twisted knot design in front.

  • At this point, I was more than happy, after fitting it on my body as it gave the desirable result, I thought to make it sleeveless just like the style inspiration I saw, but on second thought,

  • I drafted my long sleeves pattern, adding extra length to extend it a bit

And here is the finished look my chic and beautiful and dress. It's just a reminder to every one of us that if we don't get things done, they will always look difficult to us, whereas it isn't.

This is tricky I can see
And it's true that we can never be able to learn all the designs in the world.

Oh yes, it is, reason why learning never stops
