Happy Weekend dear friends on Hive, wishing everyone a great and fulfilled weekend.
The weekend is usually a tough one for me to have fun ironically because I'm always fixed at my sewing station, but today, I've got other plans, not excluding sewing though, I got an invitation to join a concert happening this afternoon, and I'm excited about the upcoming event because my group will be allowed to play the guitar, so this is one part of me I don't often share, one of my goals this year was to learn how to play one instrument, and luckily for me, an opportunity was presented when I joined this music group, I'm not a pro yet, and often shy form playing for an audience, so far, I've been learning my chords, strumming, etc and trust me when I say the guitar is one of the hardest instrument to learn, but so far my determination has kept me going, and playing for not just a little gathering, I'm nervous and excited at the same time.
Our dress code for the day is an Ankara jacket paired with either a black skirt or pants, it just hit me this morning that I don't own any ankara jacket, courtesy of my sisters, gifting themselves my jacket without even asking for my permission, because they know I can always make another one for myself, not minding if I find out at a wrong or urgent timing and now I'm left with no choice but to make a new one for my self, waking up this morning, after saying my prayers, the next thing I did was to start working on making my jacket, thankfully, I had a leftover two yards of ankara at home and also had my hubby around to help take care of the children and prepare breakfast while I work. This ruched side ankara jacket was made in about an hour, cutting and sewing processes involved.
It is easy to make, and I'm sure following these steps, you can also recreate yours as well.
- The first thing I did was cut out the back pattern, by measuring how long I wanted the sleeves, which is my elbow length, this length also determined the fullness of the kimono jacket.
- Using the back pattern, I traced and cut out the front pattern as well with a V-neckline and opened the front to form two pieces.
- Next, I joined both front and back by the sides and hemmed the base
- After joining the sides, I measured 15 inches upwards and created a case where I would pass the ruched strings.
- making the loop/strings, I sewed and turned It to the good side, before passing them into the sides case created.
And here is the final look of my Ankara Kimono Jacket with ruched sides, beautiful, isn't it, now this part is sorted, I have to practice for the upcoming concert, and I hope to give my best.
