Greetings dear creative hivers, I hope you are all having a great day and week so far wherever you are, I thought I would meet up with yesterday's needleworkmonday post, which I usually don't like missing out on, but the outdoor I was involved in took the whole day, and by the time I got home, it was too dark to finish up my sewing project.
Thankfully, we have the gift of another day, and I will be sharing with us an easy DIY of how I transformed grandma's old dress into a simple dress for her granddaughter, still at my parents, I've not gotten the time to get on any serious sewing project but being someone that has gotten used to sewing and can't go a week without creating something, these days, I've been keeping my hands busy, upcycling old dresses or shirts like I shared in a previous needlework post to something refreshing and very functional,
That is the whole goal, making something new and useful out of old abandoned dresses by the previous owner, and both of them, my mum and daughter in this case were very pleased and impatiently looked forward to what I would make.
This used to be my mum's favourite dress to church, she probably got tired of it or, just got too many favorites that she abandoned this for a long while, spending these few days with them and seeing how I transformed my dad's shirt into a blouse for myself, she gave me her dress and asked if I could perform same magic to create something for her granddaughter, I was more than pleased to get started because it would make me get busy and take my mind away from worrying thoughts, at least for a while, the process of upcycling this dress was quite simple, and anyone can also do the same for themselves, using the steps I would provide in this post.
- The first step is to cut out the part I would need to make this transformation, which is the lower part of the dress in this case.
- Next, I folded it making it four folds, and cut out a simple a-line dress pattern using her measurement, for both front and back.
- Continuing, I folded the neckline in and sewed it all around, I also joined the shoulder area.
- Lastly, I joined the sides of the dress, using the previous hem, as there was no need to rip it
And that completes the making process of this simple A-line dress I have had this fabric flower for a while from a previous dress, and the colour kind of blends with the dress, positioning it at the chest and waist area, I can't seem to decide where to place it, Grandma preferred the chest area, so I tacked it firmly and it added extra stylish details.
Both grandma and granddaughter were happy with the final result of the dress.

Amazing how we can turn outdated clothes into something new, beautiful and useful. You did well with this. thanks for sharing.
Nice work!
Wow! The transformation is so beautiful and no one would have thought it was made from an old dress. Well done.
Excellent transformation, very simple but nice result. Good job.
It is amazing what we can achieve with the transformation of those garments that we thought we were not going to use and that by transforming them we give them a new life of use.😀🤗
