Two years ago prior to the pandemic, I was in rolled in several arts and craft classes at a senior center. My Pottery Class has started again with a limited enrollment. I went to class last week and I ended up with clay all over my clothes, face, and apron. I have several pottery aprons, but I wanted my split leg apron for this week. I had forgotten how messy throwing clay on a pottery wheel can be. I used to wear scrubs over my clothing to keep myself clean. I will take a pair of scrubs with me to my class in addition to my split leg apron.
Since I have an embroidery sewing machine, I like to personalize my garments. I especially wanted to personalize my apron to showcase some of my handiwork to my friends. Everyone was asking how we were doing and what we had been up to during our time of separation.
I really enjoyed my charcoal drawing class too, but registration was limited to one art class because of the reduced enrollment. My art teacher said that we may be able to go back to larger classes if everyone stayed safe during this quarter.
I put my first design in the upper center of my apron. I really feel that I am blessed to still be alive during this pandemic. I personally know people who have died as a result of COVID-19.
I used my magnetic hoop again because it is so easy to float the garment on top of the hoop using magnets. I started off trying to use the regular hoop but it was too much trouble so I switched back to old faithful. I also used cut away stabilizer on the back of the apron. It is sturdier than tear away and my apron will get frequent washings.
There is an expression used in embroidery. “If you wear it, don’t tear it.”
I am excited about my pottery class, and I expect to post more about my artwork.
Enjoy your day.
Nice job weldon thanks for sharing 🙏🏽
What do you mean by split leg apron? My daughter-in-law is taking pottery right now and I think making her an apron would be a good thing.

This link will show you a pattern for the type of apron that I am embroidering.
thank you
A regular apron is just a panel with two ties on the side. A split leg apron will cover pants, so there are two ties for each leg if you are wearing trousers. I usually wear pants to keep the clay from getting all over my clothing. You have to straddle the pottery wheel and the covering for each leg allows you to do that and still keep your clothes clean.
