Sewing a Custom Face Mask

in NeedleWorkMonday5 years ago

I have been making quite a few masks in my spare time. Since I have embroidered fabric successfully, I have made three masks with something written on the front.

I made a mask for a friend who was using a bandanna as a covering. I follow the same pattern that I have been using lately.

This particular pattern includes a space where you can insert an additional filter if you prefer.

I used a pipe cleaner that I inserted in a channel above the nose that provides a tighter fit. I used one of my jewelry tools the curl under the edge of the pipe cleaner so that it does not poke through the fabric.

I don’t feel that I need any additional filters because the thickness of the fabric along with the construction gives three layers.

That’s enough for me because it still allows me to breathe easily. The side of the mask that is not visible is not as neat as I usually make them. The fabric is very thick when I fold it to make a pocket for the elastic.

I wanted to make sure that the elastic can be replaced with ribbon or lace or anything else that the wearer prefers. All in all, I am pleased with the outcome. It will fit nicely and it will provide an effective covering for the nose and mouth. On the plus side, it has a custom look because of the embroidered initials.

Enjoy your day!

I love the mask you made, it looks beautiful, what does the initials you put on it mean
I'm sure your friend is glad to replace her bandana covering for a real mask. I also learnt to make them on the internet and I've tried two styles yet , gave my dad ( what he used as a covering was an eyesore lol)
Happy #needleworkmonday @jluvs2fly!

Thank you. Those are my friend's initials. 😊

Yeahhh: The embroidery machine in action. The detail makes the mask special, although the cause is not nice, the mask is.
