Slouchy Ponytail Beanie

in NeedleWorkMonday3 years ago

My hair is pretty thick and it has gotten very long. I decided to make myself a ponytail knitted beanie using my circular knitting machine. The circular knitting machine makes knitting go very quickly. It took me more time to cast off and finish the edges than it did to knit the whole thing.

I don’t know how much longer my machine will work though, because it has started making some noise as I turn the handle. I watched some YouTube videos and discovered that it can be taken apart and lubricated. It looks like too much work for me, so I am not going to do that.

For this project, I chose a skein of yarn that I have left over from another project. I only needed one skein to make the beanie. The biggest challenge was the texture of the yarn. The texture is curly and bumpy.

While I was knitting, I dropped a stitch and didn’t notice it until at least 10 rows afterwards. I had to watch a video to refresh my memory on how to pick up dropped stitches. I used a crochet hook to pick up the dropped stitches because it was the easiest method for me.

Originally, I was going to use the entire skein of yarn. After a while, I noticed that I did not need the entire skein for my project.

To cast off my yarn from the machine, I used the waste yarn method. I knitted an additional four rows using a contrasting color. I made a mistake though and chose some yarn that was too close to my beanie’s color. I could barely tell the difference between my original yarn and the waist yarn. That’s what took up most of my time. I won’t make that mistake again.

The weather is still cold outside, but I prefer to have my hair hanging out of my hat rather than stuffing all of my hair inside a hat, unless it is raining.

I used a slip stitch with a yarn needle to decrease the size of the opening in the back. I also did not take the time to make the front “cute.” 😊 I may choose to do that later, but I wanted the beanie to be finished because I need to make a run to the grocery store.

It’s cute enough for casual clothes and warm enough to keep my head from freezing.

Enjoy your day.

I like that idea if being able to gather up your hair but not cram it into a hat. Certainly lots of challenges there with crimpy yarn, dropped stitches and too little contrast colour ... but I'm guessing you made it to the grocery store 😍.

I made it to the store and the beanie is very comfortable. 😊

Me encanta tu gorro. Gracias por compartir. Saludos

Gracias. 😊

Wow this looks amazing thanks for sharing

Thank you. You're welcome.
