Blessed day my dear needleworkers; happy start of the week, I hope you are in good health and with lots of energy to continue creating with our needles.
I am quite excited with my list of pending projects. I am still going on with the challenge I started several weeks ago and I can say that it has been very hard for me not to fall into the temptation to go out and buy some new yarns; so far I have been able to work only and exclusively with the material I have at home.
My favorite day to start a new project is Sunday as it is the day I can take more time to watch tutorials and choose a pattern. Lately it has taken me more time than usual, as I used to choose the pattern and then go out and buy the necessary material. Now I have to go through my box of yarns and see if what's in there can be used to make a complete project. Many times the projects I like require more yarn than I have in stock,or simply a different thickness or texture. So I have to adapt to what I have and change my mind or modify the pattern.
I started this challenge with the intention of curbing my habit of compulsive buying of wool, yarn and crochet needles. However, after having completed 5 projects I realized that it has also served to stimulate my creativity and imagination. I have been able to use some tricks to obtain different colors and textures; as well as I have modified some patterns.
This time I'm excited to show you this colorful triangle Crop Top that I knitted this weekend. This is a summer garment, ideal to wear on a trip to the beach, it combines very well with a jeans skirt or a linen short. I've always wanted to knit a triangle top, so I looked at several tutorials and settled on the one I liked the most. Find some leftover acrylic yarn and start knitting.
The pattern is quite simple, although I had a small complication at the time of closing the tip of the triangle to make the neck of the top, but I was able to solve it quite well. In my opinion, the important thing in this pattern is to know how to combine the colors so that the result is as harmonious as possible.
In my case I used a pattern to make a bushy triangle in stockinette stitch, but you can also do it in ajour stitch if you want a triangle with looser stitches. To give the design some relief, I knitted a few rounds with a stitch that consists of sandwiching a knitted overcasting stitch on top of the overcasting stitch of the previous round and a long overcasting stitch in the overcasting stitch where the overcasting stitch of the previous round started. This type of stitch gives a little more dimension to the design and is ideal for multi-colored knits.
Finally I knitted the laces to hold the neck and back, added them to the triangle to give it the shape of a top and this way I finished my weekend project. I made this top with a lot of enthusiasm for my daughter since it has been a long time since the last time I knitted her a beach top and I could notice how much she has grown, although for me she will always be my little girl. I hope you liked this simple design. Thanks for reading, greetings and blessings.

I love those colors and the design! Your challenge is a smart one! I would save so much money if I challenged myself to only use what I had on hand. This is such a beautiful Summer crop top! Nice work Katty ~
Thanks a lot for your appreciation.
I started this challenge because I won't be able to carry all that material in my luggage, so I decided to use it in projects that I can give as gifts. I will only take yarns for summer projects since the weather is hot in my country.
The idea of working with materials you already have is a good one, it is something I would like to try sometime. Like you, the materials I have are either not enough or not the colour I would like to use for the project I have in mind.
The top is really beautiful. I love the stitch you used and the colours
Thanks a lot @blezyn for your appretiation.
I am glad you like the top beacause you are an expert with the tops.
The colors you had in your stash are working so good together. The bright red (or coral) makes the top perfect for the summer. And I understand you so well on wanting to buy new yarn, but also wanting to use the things one have :-)
And totally per chance I meat a friend on the weekend who just picked up crochet and finished a cropped top for her daughter. I think your pattern will be perfect for a second pattern, I will show it to her <3
Hello my dear lady, thanks for reading my post.
I also like the colors of the top.
This pattern is so easy and simple to knit, I am glad you like it.

this is so cute!
Thats an awesome challenge you chose for yourself!! and it did turn out lovely:) I do find it amazing how we can reach a different part of creativity somehow by limiting ourselfs in the process (and not buy everything you need, for example, as you did) I think it brings up new ways to work with materials or choosing color themes you might not choose otherwise if you have all the choices, as if you go to a shop.. I really liked to read about that in your post!!:)
Que hermosura! 🤩🤩
