Desde hace un tiempo había comenzado un proyecto de Patchwork, (esta es la técnica en la que cortas retazos de tela de diferentes modelos y los unes con costura para hacer increíbles creaciones), éste lo había hecho con retazos de jeans viejos y no pude terminarlo ya que mi intención era crear un cubrecama gigante, pero se me hizo difícil conseguir tanta cantidad de pantalones viejos, entonces decidí utilizarlo para crear un forro para mi silla de costura, ven y te muestro cómo lo hice:

A while ago I started a Patchwork project (this is the technique in which you cut pieces of fabric of different models and sew them together to make incredible creations), I had done this with scraps of old jeans and I couldn't finish it because my intention was to create a giant bedspread, but it was difficult for me to get so many old pants, so I decided to use it to create a cover for my sewing chair, come and I'll show you how I did it:
MATERIALES
La silla que utilizo para coser es de madera y por lo tanto es bastante incómoda, cuando tengo mucho rato ya sentada me comienza a doler mi trasero, ja ja, es por esto que comencé a buscar entre todas mis cosas y conseguí este gran pliego de tela hecho en puros retazos de jeans, honestamente no lo recordaba, entonces pensando decidí hacer el cojín con esta hermosa tela, por supuesto siempre que llegas a una casa de una costurera debes encontrar cosas hechas con esta técnica
El jeans es un material maravilloso para trabajar en la costura, este es bastante resistente, no se ensucia con facilidad y en lo personal me gusta mucho como quedan las prendas con él, para realizar este tipo de trabajo vamos a necesitar los siguientes materiales:
- retazos de jeans
- retazo de tela
- esponja
- exacto o cúter
- tijeras
- cinta métrica
- Hilo
- máquina de coser
The chair I use for sewing is made of wood and therefore it is quite uncomfortable, when I sit for a long time my butt starts to hurt, ha ha, that is why I started looking through all my things and I found this large sheet of fabric made from pure scraps of jeans, honestly I didn't remember it, so thinking I decided to make the cushion with this beautiful fabric, of course whenever you go to a seamstress's house you should find things made with this technique
Jeans are a wonderful material to work with in sewing, it is quite resistant, it does not get dirty easily and personally I really like how clothes look with it, to do this type of work we will need the following materials:
- scraps of jeans
- scrap of fabric
- sponge
- exact or cutter
- scissors
- measuring tape
- thread
- sewing machine

Comenzaremos tomando las medidas, el asiento de mi silla mide 35 cm de largo, por 34 cm de ancho, en la parte de atrás tiene forma triangular en las esquinas , trataré de que mi cojín tenga esta forma, el espaldar mide 37 cm de ancho y el alto lo haré un aproximado de 15 cm pero tengo que hacerle los pliegues para que quede como funda para la esponja así que cortaré la tela de 40cm para darle la forma.
Para colocarle de relleno conseguí una esponja, esta me gusta ya que tiene un aproximado de 5 cm de grosor, esto hará que quede bien acolchado mi cojín y sea más cómoda mi silla.
Para cortar la tela tendré que escuadrar primero ya que no está completamente recta, al principio corté un cuadrado de 40 cm por cada lado para el asiento, luego le cortaré los excedentes, para el adorno cortaré tiras de tela de 6 cm de ancha, a esta le voy a pasar Overlook por la orilla.
Mi máquina Overlook casi no la uso en la actualidad ya que me ha presentado un poco de dificultad, pero hace unos días logré controlarla y me emociona volver a usarla, lo práctico de esta costura es que no necesitas en muchas ocasiones hacer ruedo , sólo la pasas en las orillas y queda decorativa, en lo personal me gusta mucho como se ve.
We will start by taking the measurements, the seat of my chair is 35 cm long by 34 cm wide, the back has a triangular shape at the corners, I will try to make my cushion have this shape, the backrest is 37 cm wide and the height will be approximately 15 cm but I have to make the folds so that it is like a cover for the sponge so I will cut the 40cm fabric to give it the shape.
To put the filling I got a sponge, I like this one because it is approximately 5 cm thick, this will make my cushion well padded and my chair more comfortable.
To cut the fabric I will have to square it first because it is not completely straight, at first I cut a 40 cm square on each side for the seat, then I will cut the excess, for the decoration I will cut 6 cm wide strips of fabric, I will pass Overlook along the edge.
I hardly use my Overlook machine these days as it has been a bit of a challenge for me, but a few days ago I got it under control and I'm excited to use it again. The practical thing about this stitching is that you don't need to hem it often, you just sew it along the edges and it looks decorative. Personally, I really like the way it looks.

Para el siguiente paso voy a cortar la esponja, esta se hace más fácil cortarla con un exacto o cúter, luego perfeccionamos con la tijera, esta si la corté de la medida exacta, para el espaldar me quedó un excedente de 15 cm de ancho me pareció perfecto
For the next step I'm going to cut the sponge, this is easier to cut with an exacto knife or cutter, then we perfect it with the scissors, this one I cut to the exact measurement, for the back I had a surplus of 15 cm wide, it seemed perfect to me.

Para comenzar uniré con costura la tira de tela haciéndole pequeños pliegues, esta será la orilla de decoración, en la parte de atrás no es necesario hacerle pliegues ya que esta parte casi no es visible, esta parte le uní la tela con costuras sin necesidad de hacer pliegues.
Ahora vamos a unirme el retazo de tela que irá por la parte de atrás unimos por los laterales y luego unimos en la orilla delantera para crear el pliegue y pueda caber la esponja.
Esta quedará tipo funda, de manera que a la hora de lavarla sea más fácil sacarle la esponja, a esta tela también le pasé costura en Overlook en la orilla para evitar hacerle ruedo.
To begin, I will sew the strip of fabric together making small folds. This will be the decorative edge. There is no need to make folds on the back as this part is barely visible. I sewed the fabric together with no need to make folds.
Now we are going to sew the piece of fabric that will go on the back. We will sew it on the sides and then we will sew it on the front edge to create the fold and the sponge can fit in.This will be like a cover, so that when it is time to wash it, it will be easier to remove the sponge. I also sewed this fabric in Overlook on the edge to avoid making a hem.

Para el siguiente paso vamos a hacer el espaldar, a este le voy a colocar un retazo de tela azul en la orilla de aproximadamente 8 cm de ancho, luego le daré forma rectangular en los laterales y luego uniré por las orillas de manera que me quede una pestaña de tela de jeans en la parte de atrás para meter en el espaldar y la parte delantera sostendrá la esponja, en mis imágenes muestro como debe quedar.
For the next step we are going to make the backrest, I am going to place a piece of blue fabric on the edge of approximately 8 cm wide, then I will give it a rectangular shape on the sides and then I will join along the edges so that I have a tab of jeans fabric on the back to put in the backrest and the front part will hold the sponge, in my images I show how it should look.

No pude lograr hacer el cubrecama que tenía pensado con la tela de jeans y la técnica del patchwork, pero logré hacer unos hermosos cojines para mi silla de costura, al tenerlos ya listo se los coloqué me encantó como se ve, ahora sí puedo lucir mi silla y trabajar de una manera más cómoda.
I couldn't make the bedspread I had in mind with the jeans fabric and the patchwork technique, but I did manage to make some beautiful cushions for my sewing chair. Once I had them ready, I placed them on and I loved how they looked. Now I can show off my chair and work in a more comfortable way.
