Hello, dear friends! How’s life going on? I hope everybody is doing well. It’s my first time here at needlework Monday. I adore sewing and want to share everything with you, but I just need to find time to write about it. And now I'd like to share one of my own passions with you. I hope you enjoy what I'm about to publish today.
In today’s blog, I am so glad to share with you another income generating project that you will surely enjoy doing. Are you familiar with a shoe cover? Shoe covers are of different types; they could be disposable or reusable slip-on garments that fit snugly over a variety of shoe styles and sizes. They prevent dirt or hazardous material (including organic and chemical particles) from coming into contact with the bottom of a person's shoes.

The project that I am going to show you is a reusable shoe cover. I started making this, when I found out that there are many students and parents asking for a shoe cover for the classroom and for their schoolchildren. Many teachers are encouraging their students to wear shoe covers to protect and maintain the surface of the floor and keep their classroom tidy.
This project will only take 10–15 minutes, depending on your speed at sewing. Despite my busy schedule, I really set time in making this project every weekend because, aside from the fact that I am passionate in sewing, this shoe covers are very saleable during weekdays, and it is one of my sources for the allowance of my kids in school.
I know many of you here can easily make this kind of project since the materials are not so costly. You can just use cut-out materials or the cloth remnants that can still be used. And if you do not have a sewing machine, you can do hand sewing.
So, let’s go and learn how to make shoe covers!
Materials needed:
High speed Sewing machine or manual sewing machine
Scissors
1 spool of green thread
garter 12 inches cut in 2
tape measure
Cloth cut in 4 x 44 inches long
Cloth resembled as foot
Procedure:
1.Decide what shoes you are going to cover. Draw and transfer the size of the shoes into the garment to acquire a perfect fit. Then cut it around giving ½ allowance from the sewing line.
2.Measure the resembled shoe. Get its circumference. Then prepare a piece of cloth for the bodice, cut it 4 x 44 inches in width, or you the length may vary depending on the measurement of the shoe being measured.
3.If the cloth you are using usually ravels, overedge around the raw edges. In the absence of an overedging machine, you can apply the kinds of seam finishes you have learned. (seam finishes like French seam, plain seam, etc.)
4.After stitching the raveled edges. Sew and assemble the cloth. Connect the circled parts as shown in the picture below.
5.After assembling the upper part of the cloth. Connect it to the resembled foot/shoe using a sewing machine, if available. If a sewing machine is not available, you can do hand stitching.
6.Sew around the corner until it is fully closed. Sew the pointed part of the pen.
7.The next step is to make a slot or passageway for the garter to pass through. As seen in the illustration below, fold the cloth downward following the arrow and sew it, leaving a passageway for the garter.
8.Insert the safety pins with the garter on them in the slot provided and secure the garter by tying the end of it. See the illustration below.
9.You will come up with the following outputs.
I do appreciate you taking the time to read my blog. I hope you get something out of it.
Everyone, have fun sewing!
I hope to see you in my next blog.
