Hello beloved family and friends of the community, Happy New Monday to us; it is indeed needlework o'clock, and I am as ready as I will ever be to feed my eyes with your projects and learn new things from everyone here.
For today's project, I did something a little different from the normal cut and sew. Knowing the importance of recycling, I don't wish to see even the tiniest bits of any fabric go to waste. If we can recycle old clothes, bags, and shoes, then why would we throw away scraps of new fabrics? Not willing to dispose of fabrics just like that, I have a bag full of very many tiny pieces of fabrics.
Each time I keep repeating it to myself that I will find all of them useful someday. Today is one of those days. I brought out the scrap of a particular fabric and decided to make something different with it.
This came with a little deviation from the norms; I will be designing a dress with fabric-sewn ropes and pieces. I just don't know how I came about this idea, but I hope to make something useful of these scraps even if they are too beautiful in the end.
I have joined several little pieces to cut the back bodice of a dress in size 6.
Then I took off my plain silk fabric to cut the front block.
Next I decided to draw out design lines on the plain fabrics, in which I will be using another fabric to trace this design.
After that I had cut the African print fabric pieces, forming a 0.7" long stripe, which I then sewed to the plain dress block on the front.
Tracing out the design I had earlier drawn on the dress
I didn't know how this will turn out wether it will be beautiful of not I just want to make something useful out of what would have otherwise be burnt away. A lot of seamstresses here do keep these fabric scraps, which often get burnt away, and I wish that they would be put to good use.
I thought of sewing a plain dress
then add a pocket of the African print fabric, but the fabric isn't wide enough to sew a pocket, so I had to device other means.
Having completed the sewing, I took out a pattern and drew out what would seem like the neckline since I have always had issues with sewing collars.
The sleeves were next
That's as fixed in, and it's time to fix some buttons. Isn't it funny that I have never tried making a buttonhole before? There is a special machine that does that, but seamstresses that do not have that often find their way to make buttonholes.
Instead of that I got these press buttons and decided to make use of them, hoping that they will be as useful as the normal button.
At this point I have exhausted the fabric to a satisfactory level, and we can dispose of the rest of it here.
What do you think of the dress?
I can go on adding more embroidery, rhinestones, and decorative buttons to add more light and glitz to this, but here is one dress someone will find useful rather than thrashing our fabric scraps.

I have been in my recycling era as well. Fabric straps are meant to be repurposed not trashed. This dress is beautiful nobody would have guessed it was made out of scrap fabrics. Thanks for sharing this with us
