It’s such a shame that I almost ruined my neighbor's daughter's Christmas outfit. It is particularly the same neighbor who is always skeptical about entrusting me with designing her outfits. She always desires a perfect job with no room for mediocrities; hence, he too, a long while before she started entrusting me with her clothes.
Having made her one or two outfits, she decided to bring her daughter's clothes for me to sew for them.
And guess what happened. I ruined the Sequence lace.
It was one of my greatest fears and regrets; I made some miscalculations about the quantity of fabrics that would be enough based on teenagers sizes, and when I started to cut the clothes, it wasn’t enough. Not having enough wasn’t a problem initially until I wanted to cut the front block, which shouldn’t have any joining, but there were no pieces of fabric left to do that.
The fabric is an expensive one, and when it is ruined like this, we have no choice but to purchase a new one in order to cut the design with no error in the sewing.
I didn’t want her to know about this challenge but went ahead to purchase new fabric to make the clothes.
I kept the former damaged fabrics for myself and for later use, and then I was lucky to find the exact same color of the fabric she brought at the market.
I bought the desired quantity and started making the dress all over again. While some sewing mistakes can be managed, some often leave us with losses. This made me sincerely appreciate those who have encouraged me on the sewing journey and have worn every outfit design I have made, including the ones with numerous flaws.
Sewing is really not easy, and while cutting fabrics, especially, we must give it maximum attention. I didn’t want her to know about the mistakes because sometimes they will overreach and even prevent other clients from bringing clothes to sew with me, and since I know what to do, I proceeded with purchasing a new fabric entirely.
I continued with making the outfit, and this time with no mistake.
Cut out the front and back block. The back with zipper it's allowance
And then I wove the organza fabrics with my zigzag machine.
Stitched the different pieces together and then
I tried it on the mannequin to see the fit before putting on the final touches. I don’t want there to be any mistakes on the outfit again.
Next I pleated the organza fabric around the armhole. And the dress was ready.
A beautiful, flawless sequined dress waiting to be delivered I believe that all professions and careers come with their own challenges; sometimes we win and other times we lose, but in all we need to be encouraged in order not to give up. And it’s better to be among a circle that will encourage us rather than those willing to drag us down. I have promised myself to be very careful each time I am making clothes, especially for clients who are not good at encouraging me.

This well detailed and blue is a very beautiful. Every profession comes with it challenge and like you said we need moral support from fellow fashionistas who want to see us win. Well done Ene.
This dress is so special and beautiful. I love everything about it. Mostly the design. Thanks for sharing
I remembered the same mistake I made sometimes ago on a client fabric, I had to purchased another one just like you did, it's so frustrating but today, I have learnt to always be careful when suggesting the amount of fabric that would be enough for a particular style, it's better to have left over than to be short of fabric.
Trust me you did a great job with the outfit.
I love organza and anything related to it. I didn’t know it was in colours. Wow! This is really beautiful. I love how even though it’s a simple dress, you made sure to pay attention to all the details. I love it❤️
That was quite unfortunate that you had to buy the fabric... but on the bright side, from now on you're gonna be extra careful and this mistake will make your work better.
Thats true for sure 😃
I always love a sequence material, it looks so beautiful, I love the style you gave out, sorry for the mistake, I quest that no one is perfect in terms of sewing but trust me, your work is woohoo
The final result is so beautiful, I know how heartbreaking it can be to run such kind of loss, thank God you could afford it during the short while, one good thing is that we learn from our mistakes, especially the expensive ones.
