Today I'm happy to share with us the making process on how I had cut and sewn a lovely and fitted pencil pant trouser.
Sewing trousers has often come with a challenge for me, and most times I avoid sewing clothes for people when it involves the addition of sewing a trouser.
Yesterday a best friend of mine came visiting, and being a seamstress herself, we got talking, and I told her about my challenge. With all eagerness, she was willing to share her knowledge of what she knows about sewing trousers with me, how to take a proper crotch depth measurement so that the pants won't end up making the wearer feel uneasy at the hip area.
Rather than just listening to the theoretical knowledge and forgetting it, I decided to put it into practice immediately.
I found a piece of this plain fabric at home that will be just perfect for sewing pants.
I started with cutting the front piece of the pants, inputting the waist measurement, hip, and full length.
For a perfect crotch depth, she told me to always sit 🪑 🪑 🪑 my clients down on a chair before taking such measurements.
After that I then place the front part of the trouser on another part of the folded fabric before I go ahead and cut it.
That was done, and it's time for stitching.
First I stitched the crotch together, then the side seams and other parts of the trousers. And then a band of the exact waist size was sewn and attached to the waist.
After that is completed, I can then decide to either use a zipper or an elastic band to keep the waist fitted.
I was so happy to host my friend and was even privileged to learn something new from her that has been a challenge for me for a while now.
