Hello Hive
It is a peaceful evening here and the usual quietness that characterizes my neighborhood. I like it as my house is a bit far from the main road and the busy town. Right here I have got the perfect time, peace, and quietness needed for some meditation and that serene environment one needs to allow our imagination to go far and yonder.
Most times our environment has a lot of influence on our creativity, and we must be mindful of what we allow into our space. If you are lucky enough to live in a busy town, you have to create a special office space that is peaceful and serene enough to boost your creativity.
In the spirit of the evening, I have been thinking about some of the sewing projects I have done. Far into the year, I have seen nothing less than 10 outfits, and I am still counting more. I also thought about the new things I have learned alongside too.
I sewed an overlapped dress towards the end of last year, which I almost ruined as it was massively exposing the cleavage. I learned some expensive lessons sewing that outfit.
And then in another project I have sewn an outfit with a cut-together sleeve known as Kimono 👘, which I liked so much. But what if we can make the combination of these two separate designs into one outfit?
Will it be possible to sew an overlapped dress with a cut-together sleeve? This is when I began to imagine a lot of things and how I could blend the designs made for different outfits, combine all the differences, and sew that into a single outfit.
I spread my fabric on the ground here. First constructed a basic bodice before adding an extension of the shoulder length to form the sleeve. This was the back block, and then it also had the zipper allowing.
Next, I placed the pattern on another fabric, leaving extra allowance on the front for the overlapping of the dress. I was super careful with the cleavage this time around.
You need to see how I was worried about getting this right; I was combining two different outfit designs to sew them into one outfit.
Having used a plain fabric on the upper part just to highlight the new design I was creating, I began to sew the clothes, taping the seams with the flower fabric pieces for adding a touch of it to the upper bodice.
I picked some darts to give it shape.
Continued sewing until I finally made this outfit.
How I wish that the sleeves were wider, but this was yet another mistake I made; I didn't know the perfect calculations to use for that sleeve.
For now I am just happy that it is really possible for us to create anything if we get our creative minds to work. What do you think of the dress, though it still needs a lot of ironing?
