Sewing some fashionable, matching and much needed hair cover for me.

Hello Hive

A pleasant afternoon to our community and everyone dear to us here. I hope that we have made some profitable use of the week so far.

For me, I have been trying to get as much rest as possible in between working out and doing some little sewing every now and then. Within the week I have been privileged to be able to take some days off sewing, which is a good thing compared to when the festive season and farming work were clashing with each other and demanding my attention.

Yesterday was midweek service in church, and while preparing to attend the service, I realized that I didn't have any fashionable hair cover for my head.

African churches don't often permit us to attend services with our hair uncovered. They are often strict with these traditions, and even when you go to church contrary to the rule, there is a way you will feel this sense of not belonging.

Over time, women have defined different creative items as hair cover, moving away from the normal hair ties we now have fashionable turban caps and hair bands.

It's so surprising that most of the outfits I have made so far didn't have a hair cover; I was forced to use a handkerchief to match what I had worn yesterday.

So today I decided to make some fashionable hair bands for myself of the various outfits I had made. I had scraps of different fabrics left, and it's a good thing that we can utilize them to the last.

I will be able to maximize fabric such that nothing goes to waste after making a main outfit; I can use the rest to make a hair gear.

First I started with the flowery fabric and used it to both sew and practice.Cutting out the length and breadth I wanted.
I sewed it on the machine and turned it out.

Then next I folded the length and breadth of it and cut out some allowance to make a diagonal like this.

Then I joined the diagonal to form a cross.

As soon as I was done with that, I realized that it didn't size my bead. The fabric is not stretchy; hence it needed extra allowances if I am to use it for a headband.

Then I got another fabric for another cloth of mine and started working on it.

This time I was careful with measurements and used 24" as my head circumference and then 15 inches for the width.

Following the same methods above, I made this, and it fit perfectly.

With this, I am also able to expand my creative horizons and learn how to make different hair covers alongside the outfits I sew.

Im highly anticipating my next project. It is going to be a birthday outfit for my sister. Even though I have gotten the pretty fabric here it is really difficult to know what to sew especially when they come with special designs and we have to be careful to creatively sew this without tempering with the design on the fabric which will affect the final look of the outfit.

Thanks for sharing this! Absolutely nice 👍🏻

I have been procrastinating about making this same headband, thanks for the motivation, maybe I will hop on it later in the week. Looks beautiful on you

Seeing this beautiful headband, motivates me to make my own, I've been thinking for some time to make me some hair attire and update myself, leave a little the traditional elastics and be more fashionable.

I'm glad you took advantage of this material, and that you are already up to date with your headband to cover you in church, they are comfortable and very pretty.😊🤗

I love hair accessories and this headband looks so cute. Thanks for sharing. Regards.
