RE: Visible Invisible - sewing an artwork

in NeedleWorkMonday3 years ago

The dress is a pull on, no fastening, only good old stretchy fabric :-D I am so in love with my overlock, I only want to sew on her, so I try for stretch fabric only … ok and my fear of zippers may play a role too.
And with the balaclava, I also saw this fashion trend and it motivated me to explore this kind of garment in paintings and then I suddenly had this installation idea.

I also think that the draped dress on the dressform looks way more weird and a bit distorted. So far I am not sure if I will present the garments on a dressform, on the wall or on a rope (the latter would be my preference, but I fear it wont be allowed).
The garments will be accompanied by a photo serial about taking selfies which are all b/w and refer to the idea that one only exist through the perception/recognition of the other. Playing with ideas of self-centredness and loosing the self in medial representation.
Both together , the garments and the photos, also were planned to visualise how much attention is a social award, that only the visible get attention and that attention (as a reward) is used as incentive to follow norms…. And again I am at the end of my English vocabulary :-DDDD
Back to knitting, I love the balaclava example you posted (I am currently knitting simpler versions as I want to get some of them done till 12th February)
