Reconnecting with my machine

in NeedleWorkMonday3 months ago (edited)

Spending time away from newfound hobbies is something I completely detest. It's been a while since I laid hands on my sewing machine and also, shared my progress in this amazing community. It developed issues with it's engine and my mom had to take it to an engineer who took quite a while fixing it. Hence, my stay-away.

I got it back about a few days ago and I hadn't really been able to do anything substantial till today. I've only been doing little projects such as cloth amendments, slim fitting and the likes.

I'll be resuming school this week and sadly, I'll be forced to stay away from my machine for about a month or so. For a while now, my mom has been saying she wanted a straight legged trouser made with Ankara material. She was even considering patronizing a professional tailor. Although I've never embarked on a project like this, I offered to help. A huge leap for me. My experience with the machine hasn't been much but I believed that with the right motivation and the right tutorial video, I might be able to make the trouser she wanted for her.

For a learner, I was extremely optimistic where the making of this trouser was concerned. So yesterday, I went on to YouTube and saved tutorial videos relating to the pant design I wanted. I got her measurements and continued watching the videos. Making sure to get familiar with the basics and to get the required materials prepared.

I'll be leaving for school by Friday and I won't get a chance to make this other than today. So, come today, I made the trouser for her. Call it a few months parting gift.

For this trouser, I used:

  • 2 yards of material
  • A tape rule,
  • A zip fastener
  • A pair of scissors.

Firstly, I folded my material into two equal parts and cut through through the line. I folded one of the parts and marked her waist measurement, crouch length, hip measurement, thigh measurement. I was going to add a zip to the trouser so I needed the waist measurement to be exact.

I measured the total length of the trouser and the width, then linked it with a tailoring chalk to the waist length. I traced the line and cut out the shape and divided the fold into two again, forming the front part of both legs.

For the other part I initially cut out, I folded it and repeated the measurements on it. I added two inches to everything except the total length and the leg width. I traced it and cut it into two as well.

I sewed every piece together and added a band to the trouser. I hemmed it and added the zip.

With the help of the tutorial video, I was able to make the trouser. I wore it on and it had every element of a trouser in it. But my mom is quite on the chubby side so that's why I look lost in it. I hope she'll like it.

There! That's it. My mom's trouser made by me in the flesh. With this, I'll be saying a temporary goodbye to my machine for a while. Being in school won't avail me the opportunity to make good use of it but I'm quite happy with this invention of mine. A happy goodbye it is.

I'll miss you 🥲

Awwwn☺️
You might as well carry the machine along😏

To school? Forget mode of transportation. There's no space in my hostel even for a table talk more, a machine🥲

You did a nice work, I love the material.

Thank you so much

You bet your machine will miss you too. Lol. You did well with the trouser though. One day I'll learn to sew too. I need to start making my own outfits.

It must miss me. The only reason why it will not miss me is if it's being unfaithful😂.
You will definitely learn to do that one day. You're probably just lacking the right motivation and the right instruments for now.

It ia totally normal for newbies to have issues with machine until you get familiar with it. Some simple repairs won't be needing an engineer next time and adequate oiling can help it too.
I'm sure your mum will be proud of you for making her a pant while you are still learning.

I really need to get familiar then. To save cost and time. She liked it so well. Thank you so much

It looks pretty cool. It is stylish and elegant. You did a great job! Keep up the good work! Thanks!

Thank you so much
