Hello, beautiful people of Hive! How are you all doing? I haven’t blogged for over three months. It’s good to be back!
I had a lot of tasks on my hands and it got overwhelming, so I decided to take it one at a time. Although I had ideas for posts, I couldn’t put any together and post it, so I focused on completing the crochet project I was working on.
Since I saw this cute shell stitch flared-sleeve top on YouTube some time ago, I’d had it in mind to make one for myself. I contemplated using the leftover yarn from my fairy dress, but I didn’t think the four balls would be enough to complete the top. One day, I just picked up the yarn and hook and began. I knew the yarn would be enough for both front and back panels, so I wanted to take my chance and see how it would go.
I had to watch the tutorial before I started and follow it for the first rows.
Before I began, I made a swatch to determine how many chains I’d start with. After making my calculations, I began.
The pattern required starting with a chain of a multiple of seven plus 5. After the foundation chain, I repeated row one and two till it got to my desired length. Then, I single crocheted across the bottom where I began. That was going to be the top while where I ended was going to be the bottom because it has the curved design. I followed the same procedure for the second panel. Now, I had the two panels ready.
After which I joined both panels together using my crochet hook
It was time for the sleeves. I single crocheted round the armholes before I started with the shell stitches.I crocheted till I was just a few rows to my wrist. Then, I switched my hook from the 2.5mm that I’d been using to a 3.5mm hook. That was to bring about a wider sleeve yo achieve the flare I wanted. When I had finished with the sleeves, I did the same thing to the second sleeve. After my last shell stitch on that sleeve, my top was complete.
The fourth ball of yarn finished with just one sleeve. Luckily, my friend was going to see someone around the yarn shop I order from, so I paid for a pack containing two balls of the colour I was using and another colour and he helped me pick them up. That solved my problem because I didn’t want to order when I only needed two balls.
I was satisfied with the outcome of the top. It came out better than I expected. Check it out.
I should have spent a shorter time crocheting the top, but I was slow at some point, so I spent three weeks. Those three weeks were worth every second!
What do you think about the top? I’d love to get to know your opinions in the comment section.
Bye for now, guys!
