Good Monday to all our creative community!!! I hope this week has been productive for you and that you are doing well!
This week I worked on two projects. The first is a tunic for the beach, the second is a skirt.
I really like the tunic, but I was confused by the length: too short. I had previously sewn on lace to lengthen the tunic but I still didn't feel comfortable with the length. I wished the tunic was a little longer. My husband suggested that I make a fabric insert in the middle.
To do this, I had to open the seam between the two parts in the center.
The fabric of the tunic is natural and very light. It was difficult for me to find something suitable. I looked through all the fabric I had in stock and chose a beautiful white openwork one.
First, I prepared several pieces of fabric of the width I needed. Then I needed to join them together into one strip and sew them to both parts of the tunic in the middle.
It's not difficult at all, so I just secured the strip with pins and sewed it on a sewing machine. First the top and then the bottom.
As a result, my tunic became longer.
My husband said a green belt would work well here. Of course I agree. But I think that I will wear this without a belt, since I like tunics for the beach to be wide and not fitted.
I like it when the wind easily plays with the fabric of a tunic, not restrained by a belt or elastic band.
My second project is a skirt that one of my friends gave me. She loves to buy clothes but then doesn't wear them for various reasons and gives them to me. Well, of course I don't mind 😁
I forgot to take a photo before I started working on the skirt. The skirt was also short for me. I don't like skirts that go above the knee. So I took out my stash of lace and found something that I had previously crocheted but hadn't used.
What was my idea for altering this skirt: first I increased the length by opening the hem of the fabric at the bottom and then added lace. You can see in the photo how much I gained in length.
The length of the lace turned out to be a little longer than needed. Since it is crocheted, it is impossible to simply cut off the excess part. I came up with the idea to raise the tail of the lace a little higher and use it as a decoration.
The next step is to sew it on a sewing machine.
It would seem very simple, just like a tunic. But I didn’t take into account that the fabric of the skirt is slippery and the lace is heavy. I didn’t sew it by hand with thread and a needle, but simply secured it with pins.
And this is what I came up with.
The heavy lace would often slide across the fabric and slide off. I had to go back to sew up the hole that had formed.
My laziness again taught me another lesson: not to be lazy and before sewing on a sewing machine, sew with your hands using thread and a needle. Sometimes the truth is that I get the sewing straight.
Because I had to go back and fix the seam many times, I spent more time than planned and was unable to finish my work on the skirt. Hopefully I'll finish it this week.

Take care of yourself and be healthy!!!
The color of the tunic is beautiful. The work you did with the lace adds a wonderful romantic touch.
thank you dear! I'm glad you liked it
El vestido pese a todo, quedó increíble. Luce de maravilla. Se ve fresco, cómodo y su color es encantador. Lucirás despampanante y con estilo en la playa. Bendiciones.
I also like the color of the tunic fabric. you really feel refreshed. Thank you dear
That’s so cool. Now that I think of this maybe I should add crochet to some parts of my dresses. Anyway, I think the result is pretty and very fitting for a beach. Imagine the wind blowing the dress freely and you enjoying your drink or something.
oh, I did! It's what I like! 😀 I will look forward to seeing you crochet lace and use it for clothing.
Nice transformation projects, you have achieved a nice result. I loved the style of the dress looks nice and fresh.
Thank you, Katty! I'm very pleased
I love both transformation and I think I will be borrowing your ideas too. These are lovely dear the dress especially.
Oh, that's a big compliment for me, my dear!
