Good Monday to all our creative community!!! I hope this week has been productive for you and that you are doing well!
I was lucky again: one of my female friends lost a lot of weight. She gathered her clothes and gave them to me. Among other things, there were several dresses that I really liked. But this friend is much shorter than me and the dresses were too short for me, and I don’t like that.
So I decided to lengthen them. I didn't have anything suitable in my stock, so my husband and I went to a fabric store. There I spent a long time choosing a suitable fabric that would simply shade the dress fabric but would not be conspicuous itself. This is new to me, so it was very difficult for me to choose. At the very exit from the store there was a box with pieces of fabric. And I remembered that some of our girls said that these are often leftovers and are cheap. I asked the seller and it turned out to be exactly so!
Thank you, girls, for sharing your experience and thus helping us, beginners in sewing, save money.
It was in that box that I found what I needed. I also bought a piece of lace in the store that matched the fabric very well and was the width I needed.
I think both the fabric and the lace matched the dress perfectly.
The first thing I did was cut the pieces to the width I needed and sew them together to get the length I needed.
Now it would seem to be the easy part of the job: sewing this fabric to the hem of the dress. But in fact it was difficult for me due to my very little experience in sewing, as the fabric of the dress stretched. In the end I did it anyway.
You see, the dress has already become longer. In this part of the work I can praise myself because I was not too lazy to sew it with a thread and a needle first, and only then sewed it on a sewing machine. I already fixed the lace only with pins and then sewed it on the sewing machine.
The fabric did not stretch anymore and I did a good job. My husband had a great idea to sew a small piece of lace a little higher up on the side of the dress to make it look more harmonious.
I thought it was a really cool idea!
The last stage of this project was working with the neckline. In my opinion, the neckline of the dress was too stretched and did not lie nicely. So I decided to make a couple of tucks and hide them with buttons. I checked my button stock and it turned out that there were many options. I was even a little confused about which one to choose.
The decision took me a lot of time, but in the end I settled on wooden buttons. Firstly, they matched the overall dress model quite well. And secondly, these buttons were the lightest in weight and did not stick out the fabric of the neck. And now my project is finished!
I love this dress so much! It's practical, comfortable and stylish. Agree, it is very beneficial to have friends who are either losing weight or, on the contrary, gaining weight 😁😀

Welcome
This is highly creative.
I don't think I have the balls to blend those materials.
I would have condemned it right in my head before even seeing the outcome.
yes, i understand you very well. i am also conservative in my views. but lately i like to experiment in this direction more and more. thank you!
You're welcome
This is such an impressive adjustment/transformation and everything turned out to blend in very well.
