Meet Jay ! The name was given to this little fellow by the boys this morning. He sat at the table and wasn’t scared at all.
So I had to find out what he was. Assuming he is a he!
For insects I use the app to study. It’s a Colorado potato beetle.
Its also found in this site https://www.kad.nl/kennisbank/dierplagen/kevers/coloradokever/
We have to say that for the contest
Information taking from the app / picturethis/ information is in the screen after you scanned the insect / I also have it for birds and flowers !!!
The Colorado potato beetle is a clearly recognizable yellow and black striped beetle from about 8-10 mm long. You see my nail so the size is understandable when you look at the picture. The beetle is yellow blank and each have 5 black stripes. The beetles can fly pretty well. This one stayed on my hand before I put them on my mums flowers. Colorado potato beetle and all insect worth knowing or felt the need to study. I get from my - picture insect- app. I am using the limited version. This app also has a version for flowers and plants called picture this. I didn't know this beetle but what a beautiful little animal!
The name I got :
Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say)
Insect Order: Coleoptera (beetles)
Insect Family: Chrysomelidae (leaf beetles)
Also known as : Leptinotarsa - decemlinearta
The screenshot of my app shows it was taken this morning. By me! The nail and hand in the picture were mine.
Funny was that my sister in law yelled
Omg what is that , and my boys said mum do a blog about this boy. He was relaxed and after I screenshotted him I put him on the flowers in my mums garden bed next to the parasol. The yellow colored good with his stripes !

My kids would find it fascinating, keep it in a jar for a while and name him "Spot"! before I let it back in the wild.
Haha well the boys wanted to but after the picture he ( or she ) was gone
Oops!
Do you admire the Colorado beetle? 😺
I bet he’s handsome!
But it’s a terrible pest in the garden! 👎
In Russia, he is mercilessly murdered.
If left unchecked, a Colorado beetle can destroy all crops of potatoes and eggplants! 😕
I have not seen any more, just this one do maybe it's a pest here aswell. I had to look it up to find that out. So maybe it's not good for the flower bed he flew of on. After we set him free to make a picture
Wow, this one looks soo cool, I like his pattern .. by the way, also known as the Colorado Potato Beetle, he is already widely spread throughout whole Europe too .. He is one of the earliest known species that was migrated over the Atlantic Ocean already more then 100 years ago .. and guess with food he used to travel .. Potatoes 🥔 !! .. 🤣 .. lucky one that he was brought by you to the garden 👍
Strange thing though is we don't have potatoes here in the garden and he seemed to like the yellow flowers aswell.
MYbe Italy also has problems with them I don't know I never saw one before yesterday
Well he mad e a nice blog and I learned from looking it up on the net and the app was helpful too
Especially for Tracy this is the information from the app, yes I need to look up this species because I don’t know him !
The source is the app like it’s specified
Yeah, that beetle is one destructive guy. The nymphs can decimate an entire plant in one day.
I have to say that the little bugger seems so harmless but reading up on it and seeing the comments he and his stripes are the worst for the vegetation
Great post! Enjoy the holiday with your family. 😀
Que fotos tan geniales, exótico ese escarabajo
