I took photos of these butterflies last spring.
My friend had some business in the village and she took me with her.
And it so happened that the Painted Lady butterflies, during their migration after a holiday in Israel, made a stop in Cyprus at that time.
Since Cyprus is on their annual migration route from North Africa to Europe.
And after they rest and gain strength in Cyprus, they will continue their journey to Europe.
When migrating, Painted Lady butterflies (Vanessa cardui) fly in groups, at speeds up to 30 km/h and can cover up to 500 km per day.
My friend and I were lucky to see them in large numbers.
But the happier ones were those who witnessed the UNIQUE SIGHT of the migration of 10 million butterflies in the sky over Cyprus in 2019!!!!!
How I would like to see it!!!
The photos I were taken with a Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70L tablet
The Painted Lady butterfly can be classified as a beneficial insect, as its larvae mainly feed on weeds.
But with a lack of food, its caterpillar can also eat cultivated plants.
Yay! 🤗
