Although I rarely talk about it, I personally often study all the characters it has, but before I see some suitable names have been assigned to them, they have some scientific names that are quite well known and deserve to be assigned to them, such as the Tiger Beetle (Meno-chilus sp) or someone pinned it as Cicindela aurulenta from Sumatra.
Let's try to explore it...
Most people in the world know it as a tiger beetle or tiger beetle. When looking at the name that has been given to him, it is clear that this name is due to the pattern on the two wing boards above their backs.
While the shape and physical body often do not touch the figure being exemplified, in general the naming is spoken in the everyday language of the people who dominate their distribution area. There are only a few characters that resemble animal figures in the examples, including :
1.
Patterns and motifs attached to the wings
In the life of insect and beetle species, the two wings located on the upper part of the body are one of the most important things in life, these two wings are often used for daily needs, either to reach targets or for other purposes, which can carry their limbs, towards a goal.
Without the two wings it is very supportive of daily life in an effort to achieve something. If one of them is lacking or the wings are missing side by side, then perfection in achieving an activity is lacking. So with that situation, an intention or goal is not perfect in achieving something, or experiencing deficiencies (often unsuccessful).
So based on this background, referring to seeing the similarity of language and patterns as well as tenacity in moving, like a tiger who wants to carry out an activity, the pattern or motivation attached to the two beetle wings deserves to be equated. So the pattern found in the tiger animal deserves to be tucked into these two beetle wings.
2.
Speed in grabbing prey, has similarities with tiger
Unfortunately I personally can't show physical evidence when the Tigger bettle is carrying out activities to pounce on other insects, this is influenced by the lack of tools available, of course you must have a high zoom camera and have the best quality. Here sometimes also need a super-sophisticated tool in aiming at an adequate size of object distance.
However, I saw the activity of this tiger beetle for myself, conquering prey, in the form of other insects carrying out activities, here I saw a great character when aiming and preparing everything to grab the victim as prey.
The fast jump is certainly influenced by the support of its elastic wings, although at first glance it looks hard, but the combination of leg movements and wing movements is very balanced in lifting its body in front of the prey, this speed is also supported by two sharp tools located in its mouth like a saw that decides wood.
His body movements when he wants to start a pounce activity are also similar to the character of a tiger when he is about to start an operation, he does the same thing, both ducking, standing straight, and several body styles when going to ambush. Watching him do that made me think of a tiger calculating the exact distance and size in case a potential prey escapes, giving him little room to escape in order to easily reach his prey instead of giving him the opportunity to escape an ambush, amazing.
3.
Two much needed antennas
Have you ever looked at the part of the antenna that belongs to an animal up close? If you see it, it's certainly not surprising that the two antennas are very important. In biology that I read in a 9th grade book, biology course, it can be concluded that, Antenna is a part of the body that is useful as a sensory system in arthropods. This antenna serves to detect touch, air movement, temperature, vibration, smell and taste, and several other important things even though it is less sensitive.
After witnessing firsthand the shape of the antennae found on the two parts of the head, it turns out that this special tool is very petrified or it was he who first worked to get something in his life and then other parts of the body responded.
Then do the two antennae on the two parts of the beetle's head have the same function? Like other insects...
The general answer is yes, but if we continue to explore it turns out to have other interests that I don't know yet, what is it?
I myself once found a tiger beetle whose antennae had been severed, due to a natural accident in its life, its antennae was cut in two (half left), while the other one was completely missing.
When that happens, the tiger beetle is no longer able to adapt to the environment, let alone hunt prey, its movements are always changing or its activities are not as good as it used to be, only able to stand up and lack of activity, even if forced to reach the victim, it does not have a suitable target, because it seems that these two antennas also function as a counterweight to movement in response to everything that comes from nature itself.
The name (designation) of the tiger beetle is lost if one part of its body is lacking, when it does not have complete limbs, then all its desires will decrease, let alone reach for food. Unfortunately if that happens life will be short, because they are strong when the food they get is perfect, so if the food is not enough they will die or even their bodies can be eaten by other predators, while their bodies are also considered soft, by one of the other great predators namely dragonflies coast.
So to say, he would be great if he had complete body parts, however, when there was a shortage then he wasn't great anymore. In fact, pinned as a tiger beetle will turn into a beetle that can be preyed upon (weak).
