Espero que todos se encuentren muy bien y hayan tenido una muy feliz Navidad. El día de hoy es muy especial, ya que les presento mi último post por lo que queda de año. Ha ido un muy largo año, donde hemos aprendido muchas cosas y, a pesar de que no tuve la oportunidad de poder terminar algunas metas que tenía planteadas para este año en cuanto a mis capacidades de dibujo, siempre hay tiempo y esta será una de mis metas para el próximo año 2025.
I hope you are all feeling well and have had a very merry Christmas. Today is a very special day, as I present you my last post for the rest of the year. It has been a very long year, where we have learned many things and, although I did not have the opportunity to finish some goals I had set for this year in terms of my drawing skills, there is always time and this will be one of my goals for next year 2025.
Volviendo al tema, en este post vamos a abarcar algunos tips y consejos a la hora de retratar o dibujar rasgos faciales, para que de verdad transmitan ese sentimiento que intentamos reflejar en nuestros dibujos de caricatura o bien sea para retratar personas. Todos estos tips y consejos son tomados de páginas de Internet y videos de la plataforma de YouTube; yo solamente me encargué de buscar los métodos que más se acoplaran a mi estilo de dibujo.
Back to the topic, in this post we are going to cover some tips and advice when portraying or drawing facial features, so that they really transmit that feeling that we try to reflect in our caricature drawings or to portray people. All these tips and advice are taken from Internet pages and videos from the YouTube platform; I only took care of looking for the methods that best fit my drawing style.

Una de las cosas que hay que tener en cuenta a la hora de dibujar expresiones faciales es que estas están divididas en 2 partes, las partes principales y las secundarias.
One of the things to keep in mind when drawing facial expressions is that they are divided into 2 parts, the main parts and the secondary parts.
En las partes principales podemos encontrar los ojos, la boca y las cejas. Estas son las partes más expresivas de la cara.
In the main parts we can find the eyes, the mouth and the eyebrows. These are the most expressive parts of the face.
Tomando un ejemplo, podemos ver que la posición en la que dibujemos los ojos habla mucho de la expresión que queremos plasmar. Poniendo un ejemplo en el siguiente boceto, podemos observar unos ojos que a simple vista están enojados; esto lo podemos reforzar con las cejas, que en este caso, por lógica, deberían de estar inclinadas hacia abajo. Ya con solo estas dos cosas ya podemos transmitir una emoción, pero claro, hace falta algo más que los ojos y las cejas para lograr la expresión deseada. Y esta serie la boca.
Taking an example, we can see that the position in which we draw the eyes speaks a lot about the expression we want to capture. Taking an example in the following sketch, we can see eyes that at first glance are angry; we can reinforce this with the eyebrows, which in this case, by logic, should be tilted downwards. With only these two things we can already convey an emotion, but of course, it takes more than the eyes and eyebrows to achieve the desired.And this would be the mouth.
Otro ejemplo que podemos tomar son las siguientes características, que en este caso son unos ojos un poco más atrevidos, y esto lo podemos lograr subiendo un poco las cejas y agregando una mueca correcta; podemos lograr esa sensación.
Another example we can take are the following features, which in this case are a little more daring eyes, and we can achieve this by raising the eyebrows a little and adding a correct grimace; we can achieve that feeling.
Ahora, para las partes secundarias, encontraremos la cara, ya que esta por sí sola no es capaz de transmitir una emoción,pero sí es capaz de ayudar a reforzar lo que se conoce como líneas de expresión, y estas vendrían siendo los músculos de la cara.
Now, for the secondary parts, we will find the face, since this alone is not capable of transmitting an emotion, but it is capable of helping to reinforce what is known as expression lines, and these would be the muscles of the face.
Tomando un ejemplo del siguiente boceto, pueden ver que con la ayuda de un color rojo remarqué las áreas que conforman las partes secundarias. en las cuales tenemos: el área alrededor de la boca, las mejillas y la frente. En el primer boceto podemos ver una sonrisa, que por sí sola ya podemos entender que la persona está feliz o demasiado emocionada, pero nosotros trataremos de plasmar esto en un rostro; para ello haría falta algo más, y aquí es donde entran las líneas de expresión, ya que a mi parecer estas pueden ayudar a acoplar esa sonrisa con el resto de la cara. Esto lo podemos verificar si te miras en un espejo y tratas de sonreír; verás cómo se marcan esas líneas alrededor de la boca.
Taking an example of the following sketch, you can see that with the help of a red color I highlighted the areas that make up the secondary parts, in which we have: the area around the mouth, the cheeks and the forehead. In the first sketch we can see a smile, that by itself we can already understand that the person is happy or too excited, but we will try to capture this in a face; for this we would need something more, and here is where the lines of expression come in, since in my opinion these can help to couple that smile with the rest of the face. We can verify this if you look in a mirror and try to smile; you will see how those lines around the mouth are marked.
En el siguiente podemos utilizar esas líneas de expresión para transmitir una acción. En este caso podemos ver unos ojos que están cerrados, pero gracias a las líneas de expresión podemos deducir que lo está haciendo con mucha fuerza.
In the next one we can use those lines of expression to convey an action. In this case we can see some eyes that are closed, but thanks to the expression lines we can deduce that he is doing it with a lot of strength.
Otro ejemplo parecido al anterior es este, donde podemos ver a alguien apretando unas mejillas y estas, por lógica, tienen que tener un movimiento para darle ese toque orgánico a los dibujos, que se haga entender que las manos están interactuando con la persona.
Another example similar to the previous one is this one, where we can see someone squeezing some cheeks and these, by logic, have to have a movement to give that organic touch to the drawings, so that it is understood that the hands are interacting with the person.
