Hello community ! Today I have the pleasure of inviting you to the 2nd exhibition "Bread with guava, a happy life" of the renowned Cuban plastic artist Manuel Mendive, at the National Museum of Fine Arts, in Havana. This is the first major retrospective of the artist's work in Cuba, organized under the auspices of the Mendive Art Project, and will be open to the public until July 28. This second gallery is located on the top floor of the building. Join me to see this wonderful art 😉!

Hola comunidad ! Hoy tengo el placer de invitarlos a la 2da exposición "Pan con guayaba, una vida feliz" del reconocido artista cubano de la plástica Manuel Mendive, en el Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, en La Habana. Catalogada como la primera gran retrospectiva del creador en Cuba, y organizada con el auspicio del Proyecto Mendive Art que estará abierta al público hasta el próximo 28 de julio. Pan con guayaba, una vida feliz recorre la pluralidad estética de la trayectoria del creador mediante la interacción de lenguajes artísticos -pintura, escultura, instalación, diseño, cerámica y performance- que establecen un corpus singular, donde se sintetizan las enseñanzas académicas, vivencias familiares, tradiciones populares y prácticas religiosas de raíces africanas.

La revisión de una extensa carrera de más de medio siglo, con numerosos premios y exposiciones en la Isla y el mundo, comprende tanto los primeros dibujos de clase en la Academia de Bellas Artes de San Alejandro como la continua evolución de la poética mendiviana, cuya irrupción se hizo evidente hacia fines de los sesenta.

Pan con guayaba, una vida feliz traces the aesthetic plurality of the creator's career through the interaction of artistic languages -painting, sculpture, installation, design, ceramics and performance- that establish a singular corpus, where academic teachings, family experiences, popular traditions and religious practices with African roots are synthesized.

The review of an extensive career spanning over half a century, with numerous awards and exhibitions both on the Island and worldwide, encompasses not only the early class drawings at the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts but also the ongoing evolution of the ‘mendiviana’ poetic style, which became evident in the late sixties.

La galería cuenta con un grupo de obras abstractas, la pintura oscura sobre tablas, la planimetrías de tonos estridentes y el expresionismo del color.

Mendive siempre deja huellas que conectan toda su creación, la cual trasciende las interpretaciones de los mitos yorubas y su sistema de representación hacia un universo místico donde se compromete con el hombre, la naturaleza y lo espiritual.

The gallery has a group of abstract works, dark painting on boards, the planimetry of strident tones and the expressionism of color.

Mendive always leaves traces that connect all his creations, transcending the interpretations of Yoruba myths and their system of representation. His art leads toward a mystical universe where he engages with humanity, nature, and the spiritual.

La sala exhibe esculturas de religiones afrocubanas, hace un acercamiento a los temas sobre razas, historia y experiencias vívidas. El artista ha estado a la vanguardia del pensamiento cultural cubano, siendo uno de los creadores imprescindibles en la historiografías del arte insular y un icono de resistencia de la diáspora africana en el Caribe.

Su arte ha devenido punto de encuentro de varias generaciones, entre las búsquedas identitarias del desarrollo artístico cubano y las reflexiones antropológicas de los creadores de los ochenta.

The room exhibits sculptures of Afro-Cuban religions, and approaches the themes of race, history and vivid experiences. The artist has been at the forefront of Cuban cultural thought, being one of the essential creators in the historiography of insular art and an icon of resistance of the African diaspora in the Caribbean.

His art has become a meeting point for several generations, between the identity quests of Cuban artistic development and the anthropological reflections of the creators of the eighties.

Las pinturas de Mendive a mi en lo personal me causan mucha impresión, su estilo puntillismo, su aporte diferente a las obras comunes que estamos adaptadas a observar, historias de pueblos, santos, barcos, tradicionales populares y religión resaltan en esta segunda galería, todo un espectáculo de colores.

Mendive's paintings make a great impression on me personally, his pointillism style, his different contribution to the common works that we are used to observe, stories of towns, saints, ships, popular traditions and religion stand out in this second gallery, a spectacle of colors.
