DIY Sensory Play Letter Find 🍀

We were stuck inside during a snow storm today and needed a fun project to work on. I had seen recipes on Pinterest for DIY slime, play dough, and kinetic sand, but never tried it before. I saw an idea about creating a sensory bin for kids and decided to create one for my daughter to keep her occupied. I decided to do a St. Patrick's theme since we are Irish and it's an upcoming holiday. The dough is made from just corn starch and shaving cream. We walked to the dollar store during the snow storm and got some stuff to make it. It was a really messy project, but still gave us something to do and kept my daughter entertained. Since she is learning to spell, I added letter beads to the sensory bin and had her dig for the letters to spell out words. Check out the photos and steps below to see how we did our project.

Materials:

  • Shaving Cream
  • Corn starch
  • Food coloring
  • Glitter
  • Small tray/container
  • Spoon
  • Letter beads
  • Other small objects for kids to search for

Step. 1 We poured the whole box of corn starch into the bin.

Step. 2 We sprayed about half of the can of shaving cream on top of the corn starch. Then we mixed them together.

Step. 3 We added 10-15 drops of food coloring to the mixture and stirred. (I found the food coloring mixes in better if you add it to some shaving cream and then mix it in)

Step. 4 We added green glitter to the mixture.

Step. 5 I arranged the letters for the words I wanted my daughter to find in the sensory bin. Then I added them to the mixture.

Step. 6 I added in additional letter beads and small objects. Then I mixed everything together to hide the letters.

Time to dig for some letters! (I wrote the words down so my daughter knew which letters to look for).
