To be creative doesn't require one to be a professional, I believe its the mind set behind everything that matters. If you believe you can do a thing, then you can and if it's the opposite, you won't be able to accomplish it. I believe a whole lot of us have tried a lot of things without prior knowledge of it apart from watching YouTube videos or learning from someone else's write up.
When it comes to creating and repairing things at home, I've been able to help myself out countless times without the help of anyone.
I'm always inquisitive and ready to learn a whole lot of things, I believe if others can do it at the comfort of their homes, I should be able to get it done too. For me, there is this feeling of excitement and as well satisfaction I get whenever I achieve success in any of my DIY tasks.
Without further ado, let me introduce you to my DIY Tools that I do use to perform tasks at the comfort of my room.
Tools for my hair care
My portable hair dryer and stretcher; I don't need to visit the salon to get my hair dry whenever I wash it. I dry it by myself, even if there is no electricity supply, I will use the generator at home to quickly help myself out. Recently my house had installed solar lights, so this means I can use both my hair dryer and stretcher at any time of the day without being interrupted by the electricity supply.
Next is my precious dummy head, I call it precious because it has been serving me well. I don't need the help of anybody before I stretch my wigs, all I need is to fix my dummy head to a table or chair then do whatever I want on it. Also I'm learning how to make wigs and crochet braids from YouTube so my dummy head, wig cap and pins are the necessary tools needed to get the job done.
Tools for sewing
Starting with my scissor, this is the first go to tool before any dress can be made. The scissors help in cutting our fabric into different patterns of our choice before joining.
Needle, thread and sewing machine
Thread is necessary when joining the cut pattern of our various dresses before it becomes a dress while using the sewing machine to aid a faster sewing process. Hand needle and thread is also needed when attaching patches to dress or fixing buttons.
Thread trimmer or cutter
This helps in cutting threads and ripping seams from dresses that I'm working on or have already made.
Tape rule or Measuring tape
This is use in taking the correct body measurement of myself and anybody I intend to sew for. It also helps during fitting and shaping after I've joined all the cut patterns together. Everybody has different body shape and size, so the use of the tape rule is very important in sewing to get the accurate body measurement.
Wooden ruler and chalk
Rulers and chalks are necessary for drawing out pattern on dresses that one is making. I prefer using chalk to sketch on dress than using biro because it can easily be dust off and does not stain the cloth.
It is so easy for me now to make dresses for myself, family and friends and also beautify/style my hair to my satisfaction all thanks to the DIY Tools I've gotten. The many benefits I've gotten form my DIY tools can't be over overemphasized and I'm happy I can help myself with one or two things.
