SHOE DESIGN | FINAL SEMESTER PROJECT [ENG/ESP]

At the end of last year, at the University, the professor asked us what would be the final project that we had to carry out to pass the initial course at the institution; the project consisted of creating a shoe using any technique of plastic arts in the process and the theme was to reflect the essence of the Venezuelan Being", we could make a drawing or a painting, sculpture, assembly, we had a lot of freedom to be creative 🤩.
A finales del pasado año, en la Universidad, la profesora nos planteó cuál sería el proyecto final que teníamos que realizar para aprobar el trayecto inicial en la institución; el proyecto constaba en crear un zapato usando cualquier tecnica de artes plásticas en el proceso y la temática era reflejar la esencia del Ser venezolano", podíamos hacer un dibujo o una pintura, escultura, ensamblaje, teníamos mucha libertad para ser creativos 🤩.
In the first week of January I began to design the model of shoes that I was going to create, I made some sketches to have some idea of where I was going to direct this project, since this was the first time that I have done something of this level in terms of to product design and creation; I took it in a very professional way, because the teacher told us that we had to think that we were going to present this shoe design to a renowned brand.
En la primera semana de enero comencé a diseñar el modelo de zapatos que iba a crear, realice algunos bocetos como para tener alguna idea de por donde iba a encaminar este proyecto, ya que esta fue la primera vez que hago algo de este nivel en cuanto a diseño y creación de producto; yo me lo tome de una manera muy profesional, porque la profesora nos dijo que teníamos que pensar en que ese diseño de calzado se lo íbamos a presentar a una marca de renombre.
That's why I decided to make a model of the design in 3D (sculpture) always keeping my niche which is recycling and reuse ♻️, I only used cardboard and aluminum cans for the creation of this project; I dared to make the pair of shoes, but it was not mandatory. I started with the soles of the shoes, first I made some patterns on paper to guide me and I used a corrugated cardboard to create that effect of sections on the part of the sole and it looks rustic and resistant 💪🏼😁.
Por eso decidí hacer una maqueta del diseño en 3D (escultura) manteniendo siempre mi nicho que es el reciclaje y la reutilización ♻️, use solo carton y latas de aluminio para la creación de este proyecto; yo me atreví a hacer el par de zapatos, pero no era algo obligatorio. Comencé por las suelas de los zapatos, primero hice unos patrones en papel para guiarme y use un carton corrugado para crear ese efecto de tramos en la parte de la suela y se vea rústico y resistente 💪🏼😁.
My sister had a birthday in January and they gave her several desserts, there was a cardboard box that was lying around unused and I used it to create some parts that make up the footwear; Make various patterns to use as guides and cut out the sides of the shoe on the cardboard of the cake box.
Mi hermana cumplió años en enero y le obsequiaron varios postres, había una caja de cartón que quedo por ahí sin uso y la utilice para crear algunas partes que componen el calzado; realice varios patrones para usar de guias y recortar los laterales del zapato en el carton de la caja de pasteles.
While I was still improvising the design, an interesting idea occurred to me, to use the bottom of a beer can to place a heel on the sole of the shoe; I really liked that design and I did it, cut two beer cans to make the heel of each shoe and use part of the rest of the can that was left over to make the counter part of the shoe (what covers the heel of the foot) little by little I was assembling all the parts 😋.
Mientras seguía improvisando el diseño se me ocurrió una idea interesante, usar la base de una lata de cerveza para colocar un tacon a la suela del zapato; me gusto mucho ese diseño y lo hice, corte dos latas de cerveza para hacer el tacon de cada zapato y use parte del resto de la lata que sobró para hacer la contra parte del zapato (lo que cubre el talón del pie) poco a poco fui ensamblando todas las partes 😋.
Then I began to fix the side parts to the sole, but first I gave them a slightly concave shape to give the shoe dimension, the object was already taking on a more pleasant appearance 😁. It took time to get that structure, I had to make several cuts in the cardboard to keep it in shape and stability.
Luego comencé a fijar las partes laterales a la suela, pero primero les di una forma un poco cóncava para hacerle dimensión al zapato, ya el objeto estaba agarrando un aspecto mas agradable 😁. Llevó tiempo lograr obtener esa estructura, tuve que realizar varios cortes en el carton para lograr que mantenga la forma y estabilidad.
Finally, I designed the back part using the leftovers from the cans that I had cut before and also used some cardboard for the upper edge, that is the part where the foot enters the shoe.
Por ultimo diseñe la parte trasera usando el sobrante de las latas que había cortado antes y también use un poco de carton para el borde superior, esa es la parte por donde se introduce el pié en el calzado.
From the beginning my intention was always to create a completely covered shoe, but one day I stopped to rethink the design I was doing, I shared some images on the social network Twitter and a user had retweeted my photos writing "Espadrilles coming joropo" from that moment I decided to direct the project that way; What could be more Venezuelan than some espadrilles? 😅.
Desde el principio mi intención siempre fue crear un zapato completamente cubierto, pero un día me detuve para replantear el diseño que estaba realizando, compartí algunas imágenes por la red social Twitter y una usuaria había retwitteado mis fotos escribiendo "Alpargatas que viene joropo" desde ese momento decidí encaminar el proyecto por ahí; que podría ser mas venezolano.que unas alpargatas? 😅.
I used the aluminum from two extra cans to cover the front of the espadrille, with that touch it looks a bit futuristic 😋.
Usé el aluminio de dos latas extras para cubrir la parte frontal de la alpargata, con ese toque se ve con un estilo un poco futurista 😋.
And with several pieces of wire I added an ornament to the espadrilles so that it resembled two laces tied together 👍🏼.
Y con varios trozos de alambre le agregué un adorno a las alpargatas para que asemejara como si tuviera dos cordones amarrados 👍🏼.
For the base on which I am going to present the project, I already had specifications in terms of dimensions, the teacher asked that it be 50cm x 50cm; It seemed a bit big to me, since moving it from my house to the university was going to be a bit complicated, for that reason I had to find a way to make a base that I could easily move 🙃. Make a base that is formed by the union of 4 cardboard squares that measure 25cm square each; I painted them black and drew my logo in white to create a contrast and not distinguish the unions of the squares so much.
Para la base en la que voy a presentar el proyecto tenía ya especificaciones en cuanto a dimensiones, la profesora pidió que fuese de 50cm x 50cm; a mi me parecía un poco grande, ya que trasladarlo desde mi casa a la universidad iba a ser un poco complicado, por esa razon tuve que ingeniar una manera para hacer una base que pudiera trasladar con facilidad 🙃. Realice una base que esta conformada por la unión de 4 cuadrados de cartón que miden 25cm al cuadrado cada uno; los pinte de negro y dibuje mi logo de color blanco para crear un contraste y no se distingan tanto las uniones de los cuadrados.
Now we come to the color of the footwear 😁, from the beginning I had thought of representing the natural symbols of Venezuela (the Araguaney, the Turpial, the Orchid) but I didn't want to simply draw a bird, a tree and a flower on top of the shoe and that's it 😒; That is why I applied semiotics a bit to use various symbols and represent the desired message, although with the araguaney part the result was not as expected and that is why I preferred to paint everything yellow. On one side it looks like a turpial bird and on the other side it has an ornament that symbolizes the orchid 😋.
Ahora llegamos al color del calzado 😁, desde el principio me había ideado representar los símbolos naturales de Venezuela (el Araguaney, el Turpial, la Orquídea) pero no quería simplemente dibujar un ave, un arbol y una flor encima del zapato y ya 😒; por eso apliqué un poco la semiótica para usar varias simbologías y representar el mensaje deseado, aunque con la parte del araguaney el resultado no quedo como esperaba y por eso preferí pintar todo de amarillo. De un lado parece un ave turpial y del otro lado tiene un adorno que simboliza la orquídea 😋.
I spent a month working on this project, between designing and then building the two shoes, this was a very productive experience 💪🏼 that has helped me evolve as an artist, I felt very good experimenting in the design and creation of footwear; Since I already have some experience with the plastic arts, I was able to deliver a quality product, the teacher was amazed with my project, so much so that I didn't even present it, she was in charge of doing it 😅. It gives me great joy to see how my work speaks for me, that makes me know that I am on the right path 😌.
En este proyecto ocupé un mes de trabajo, entre diseñar y luego construir los dos zapatos, esta fue una experiencia muy productiva 💪🏼 que me ha ayudado a evolucionar como artista, me senti muy bien al experimentar en el diseño y creación de calzado; como ya tengo algo de experiencia con las artes plásticas pude entregar un producto de calidad, la profesora quedo maravillada con mi proyecto, tanto así que yo ni lo presente, ella se encargo de hacerlo 😅. Me da mucha alegría ver como mí trabajo habla por mí, eso me hace saber que voy por el camino correcto 😌.
These were some of the projects of my companions on the initial journey, some made sculptures, but the vast majority chose to draw, they all made great efforts to complete their artistic projects; There were very interesting and creative designs that very well represented the essence of being Venezuelan.
Estos fueron algunos de los proyectos de mis compañeros de trayecto inicial, algunos hicieron esculturas, pero la gran mayoría optaron por hacer dibujos, todos realizaron grandes esfuerzos para culminar sus proyectos artísticos; habían diseños muy interesantes y creativos que representaban muy bien la esencia del ser venezolano.
Since I started university 5 months ago, I have been acquiring a lot of very positive knowledge and I have met very talented people from whom I am learning daily. I am very grateful for everything that I am attracting into my life, surrounding myself with art and friends. artists; little by little we are building a united community among the students, I could say that I am influencing a lot in this sense within the university and my intention is that all the students work together in the reconstruction of the spaces of the UNEARTE Armando Reverón to improve the quality of study I have encouraged new artists to continue with their university careers. Desde que inicié la universidad hace 5 meses atrás, he venido adquiriendo muchos conocimientos muy positivos y he conocido a personas muy talentosas de las que estoy aprendiendo a diario, estoy muy agradecido con todo lo que estoy atrayendo a mí vida, rodeandome de arte y amigos artistas; poco a poco estamos construyendo una comunidad unida entre los estudiantes, podría decir que estoy influyendo mucho en ese sentido dentro de la universidad y mi intención es que todos los estudiantes trabajemos unidos en la reconstrucción de los espacios de la UNEARTE Armando Reverón para mejorar la calidad de estudio he incentivar a los nuevos artistas a continuar con sus carreras universitarias.
