Hello friends!
Every year, in the garden of my house that borders a small forest, these beautiful woodpeckers come to visit me, I have been photographing them for years and today I will give you these little jewels from my collection, so let's connect again with nature through the brief history of these wonderful birds.
Melanerpes superciliaris or black-faced woodpecker is a species of bird from Cuba and other Caribbean islands that measures about 28 cm long. The forehead is whitish and at the base of the beak it is red. Behind the eye there is a black spot. The crown is red in the male, in the female it is like the forehead with some black spots. The nape of the neck is red in both sexes. The entire rest of the back is barred black and white or yellowish white. The underparts range from light grayish brown to light yellowish brown. In the center of the abdomen it has a red spot and on the sides there are black bars. The immature is like the adults but the red spot on the head is smaller. They feed on insects and larvae that attack live trunks, they also eat small fruits and also large ones by piercing them, as well as small frogs and lizards.By the time they are visiting the forest near the house, I think they have come to nest, since this is usually the time when they make their holes in palms, trees or dead trunks, so I will chase them closely to see if I am lucky to capture this wonderful moment of nest creation.
I hope you like these images and once again thank you for reading.
