In the winter morning of January 2025, I visited Surajpur Sanctuary which is near Delhi, India. Usually in winters people visit wetlands for migratory birds that visit us in Delhi NCR, but I was there to see some activities with smaller wildlife.
There’s a wooded area on the opposite side of the wetland. I usually explore this side for spiders and insects activity, but in winters sightings are difficult because they are mostly hiding. So i have to explore a little more to find them hiding between the cracks and crevasses.
This tiny little Signature Spider (argiope) was hiding the leaf, but as soon as there was some sunlight it went back and perched on it’s intricate web with a signature on one side. These signature are just think web between the thin strands of silk, helps them in capturing bigger preys like moths or fruit flies. Also, I think that these signature like web silk makes them look bigger to predators as well.
When I moved a little further there was a whole colony of tent web spiders. Their web looked like small bowls because of the dew deposites on web, it get heavier because of the water dew.
I was still exploring when I noticed a cute jumper jumping on my hand. This is a two stripes jumper. Curious little thing was not willing to leave, even after multiple attempts to put it back on the bark of the tree.
