The Platyomus genus is a group of insects belonging to the curculionidae family, the Platyomus genus is widely known as borer insects, these insects are the center of attention in the wild because of their diversity in body shape, color and also their role in the ecosystem, species in the Platyomus genus are generally found in various Habitats include forests, grasslands and plantations, demonstrating their ability to adapt to various types of environments.
Platyomus insects are herbivores as evidenced by their eating habits which focus on plant tissue, especially young plant leaves, this can be considered an important role in ecology, with their greedy nature in devouring all young leaves and they are natural population controllers in certain types of plants, but on the other hand, some Platyomus species can become pests in the agricultural sector because their presence can damage plants such as rice, corn and beans which can cause significant economic losses for farmers.
The morphological characteristic of Platyomus is that its body is medium sized, while its shape is sturdy and tends to be oval, the body color of Platyomus tends to be dark with interesting patterns, on the head of Platyomus there is a distinctive knee-shaped antenna and this is often used to recognize food, mates and also detect the presence of predators, Platyomus has a calm behavior and does not show any aggressive attitude at all when I approached to capture some pictures, from the brief observations I made Platyomus shows a high ability to survive through adaptation and camouflage strategies that Platyomus try to do it.
