Plumbago zeylanica, commonly known as Ceylon leadwort or doctorbush, is a perennial herbaceous plant in the family Plumbaginaceae. Native to tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and Africa, it is often found in open forests, grasslands, and along roadsides. The plant has slender, woody stems that may reach up to 1–2 meters in length, with simple, oblong leaves. Its flowers are small, white, and tubular with five petal-like lobes, often forming in terminal clusters. In traditional medicine, Plumbago zeylanica has been used for treating skin diseases, digestive disorders, and respiratory issues. The roots contain plumbagin, a compound with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. It prefers sunny locations and well-drained soils, making it a popular ornamental plant in tropical gardens. However, handling the plant should be done with care, as its sap can cause skin irritation.
